For all that is holy, please reconsider plugin support

No need to be condescending, friend. And thanks very much for explaining reality. You might consider making your points without the attitude. Obviously it’s their software. It’s also software that’s been funded in large part by plex pass customers. Good companies listen to their customers when they make decisions about their services and products and then make a more informed decision. What is clearly frustrating to many on this forum is that this a) seems like a purely profit motivated decision b) was sprung on customers, many of whom paid for lifetime access to features that are now disappearing and c) there is a seeming refusal to engage with their customers.

Other than that, I totally agree with you.

See, you’re useful for something after all!

If only Emby had proper anime support( @ZeroQI) , i would drop plex in a heartbeat. I guess i will update plex till i get to the version that removes plugins and just stick there as long as i can.

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/56616-3305-dvd-absolute-episode-ordering

I will maintain the longest i can.
Emby are coded using classes and visual studio so without me…

Maybe someone over at Emby could fork your code to convert it to VS. As for there possibility of reading Abs numbers per series. it might be a solution if it works welll.

i can assist with the logic.
as for tvdb modes it might be possible if season and episode number can be altered by code/script

Think of Visual Studio as just another editor that happens to have real-time debugging built in.

Classes aren’t hard to grasp or use. Watch a introduction video to classes and then an advanced video on them and it will click. For the most part you could think of them as functions specific to an object or set of data.

You can “cheat” by making some classes public/global which makes them very procedural function like.

It wouldn’t be nearly as hard as you think it would be.

I code by pleasure not need and loathe classes. You might have sound arguments but I will not waver. I can help with the logic if you want to code however…

Can the episode and season be changed in Emby through third party code? Aka Plex scanner functionality so we can port the tvdb modes? Any code sample?

If I could code I would take up the mantal but I do some powershell and python coding when I need to but I don’t really have the mind set for complex coding… Lol

Well, the biggest benefit of open source is that you can share…
I managed to build my plugins thanks to others publishing their hard work on the internet.
By publishing my own plugins in the same manner, I not only received suggestions for improvements but also direct help where other users posted code snippets so that I could improve the experience for everyone.

Ok, since a plex team member has replied in another thread with the company line, we can do exactly what he/she suggested and make this thread what it was really intended to be–a feature request to return support for plugins. Has the feature request post been updated anytime recently? Nope. But we can still vote. In a few weeks, this thread has garnered more views than that vast majority of threads on this board. I think that indicates the interest.

Feature requests need to include the “voting” option in order it to be “considered”. I have no idea how one is created or if in existing thread can be modified to include the voting option.

Yeah, I was trying to figure that out too. I feel like in the old forum there were instructions (like “hearting doesn’t equal a vote”) but can’t find anything here.

I started using Plex a few months ago. I like it more than Kodi, Emby, or anything else out there. I was considering buying a lifetime Plex Pass until I read about plug in support discontinuation. I just started using plugins this week. I can’t fathom running a business model that removes features AFTER someone paid for them and expecting a happy customer base.

I recommend Plex to anyone I think is savvy enough to use it and love showing it off, but this would break my confidence in Plex if it went through.

Plugins are and have been un-officially supported (source). Basically, plugins were developed by 3rd party independent developers and maintainers.

The issues surrounding plugins are that they often violate the company’s (or in this case site’s) TOS. Plugins “scrape” the content from a website typically bypassing any advertising you may see by using a (broadcast) network’s website or application. With Plex looking to branch out and strike up deals with various content networks and production studios, it makes sense from a legal standpoint to discontinue the plugin support.
