Is it possible to use the feature of hardware-based transcoding with AMD cards? I’m thinking about buying an AMD WX 3100 for my server and use it for transcoding. Everywhere only Intel and Nvidia are described as working, but what about AMD?

Looking to do a new build and still waiting to see if Plex will ever give AMD some love. I’d really love to build a nice little silent ryzen APU based server, but it’d be artificially hamstrung by Plex refusing to support it.

Is there a way to vote with money to make this happen? I might be convinced to contribute to a crowdfunded campaign to support AMD GPUs on the linux :smiley:

Those new 4000 series APU’s would make sexy plex servers if only they did hw assist well. Apparently the visual quality might not be adequate even if plex were to support it. Youtube has examples (mostly game streaming) of people comparing the intel vs nvidia vs amd, and amd still doesn’t seem to …

I don’t mind helping fund things I want. I would’ve used the other platforms if they met my needs. I wouldn’t mind giving some more money if it delivered the features I wanted. Money is a great motivator. Not everyone’s motivations are the same. Use what works for you.

Maybe you want to give Jellyfin a spin. My AMD HW works there just fine.

Transcoding on Linux? Windows and AMD works fine. But we haven’t had Linux Transcoding yet.
