How do I turn off auto play

I must be one of the rare people who want the option to let my shows go on even if I fall asleep. I do not want it stopping even if I do fall asleep.
Is there a way to just let it go?

It’s been 4 months since the new Plex Web has been released which removed the ability to only play a single episode and then stop. People want to be able to avoid autoplay. This isn’t even a new feature. We just want the old behaviour back where auto play could be avoided.

This. I just posted about it too. I HATE AutoPlay.

Add me to the list of people that want AutoPlay disabled

You can turn off Auto Play on the screen that appears between episodes. It is a persistent setting too, so what you select will apply not only to current play list / queue but for all future playlists also.

Well thank you for the tip.

But this is ridiculous… after years it is still happening… and then you change computer or browser and that comes back.

Isn’t it obvious? When it’s done it’s done. I might be sleeping or just got up before the credits ended to go get something or bathroom, whatever! 10 seconds is ridiculous and the fact that we dont have an option is ridiculous.

Now with the tip above I had start watching an episode, click at the end of it, watch the very last ending, get the 10 seconds warning and quickly UNTICK the AUTO PLAY option.
Then I had back to that episode and mark it as unwatched so I wouldnt miss it.
And off course, twice with different episodes to check the validity of the auto play off.

Man, it really sad to keep returning to this after more than 5 years of plex.

Now how do you turn off autoplay when you are using Chromecast?!?!?!?!?

Fairly new to Plex. I have the same issue and I can’t believe that it hasn’t been resolved.

This is insane. I can’t believe that the developers at Plex are so insensitive to it’s paying members as to go so many years with the blemish to what is otherwise such a fine program.

It makes me upset every time I meet this flaw. I keep turning it off, but something happens to keep turning it on. Then it takes me so long to figure out how to get it off again.

It totally insane that you have to play a TV Show, then have only 5 seconds to catch the screen to turn it off. I’m an old man and have a hard time reacting so fast.

It would be nice to be able to only play the episodes that I want to watch and have the others unplayed so that I can keep track on which ones are new. Unfortunately, I start to watch one… fall asleep, then they are all marked as watched.

I’m hoping that I can explain this flaw clear enough to inspire compassion with the programmers.

Personally, binge watching really should be discouraged, rather than forced down a person’s throat. Some people actually pay for the data that is being streamed. The flaw also drains the battery on my device.

There are so many problems that aggravated by this design flaw.

Hopefully, someone with more intellect than I have can put these thoughts into words in such they won’t continuously fall on deaf ears.

I keep turning it off, but something happens to keep turning it on

This setting should persist in the browser, assuming you are not in incognito mode, or clear the browser state. If you are still having problems, let’s work out what’s going on.

Then have only 5 seconds to catch the screen to turn it off

Agreed. There’ll be a fix later today. It will now also be settable in the player settings during playback - below subtitle and audio stream selection. I hope that works better for you.

I start to watch one… fall asleep, then they are all marked as watched.

This was an oversight when we upgraded our player technology last year. It’s in our backlog to fix, but no dates I’m afraid, but playback should stop after 2 hours of no input activity.

That was quick. Don’t know when it was done, but I just checked. The feature is available now. Sorry if I had been ranting, but my comment was after having spent about an hour trying to find it in the interface, then I went to the forum for support, and had read years of messages describing the problem.

I’m new to Plex. I believe it’s a valuable addition to my computer network. I strongly recommend it to all my friends and colleagues. I’m glad to see, what I thought was a blemish is removed.

Thanks!

L James, where did you find the setting in the web interface? I’ve looked everywhere I could think of -
in settings - web - general
settings - web - player
library - edit
account settings
show settings
during playback

But I cannot find a setting anywhere in the web client for turning off autoplay.

You mentioned the playback settings menu in another post, but what is that? I don’t see any options for that when playing back a show

In the web client, you find it on the screen between episodes (you’d think it would also be in the player settings, but I haven’t found it elsewhere). So, start an old episode playing, tap the timeline near the end and let the episode end on its own to get to the pre-play screen. Then, click on the Auto-Play checkbox (see the image above).

Thanks for the help wayned42. It seems I had an old cached version of the web client. After restarting the browser, the between-shows screen had changed to a new layout, and the button was right where you said.

It’d be great if you could turn this off for managed users on any of the platforms they use. I have for example, remote users 3,000 miles away who are using android / roku / web and their kids will leave the roku going for hours while they’re not there just burning up bandwidth and marking episodes watched that only the walls have seen.

Is there a workaround for that since I can’t physically go there and fix it, and the kids are unlikely to do so?

In my opinion, I believe I shouldn’t be expected to log into every device I have streaming plex and turn this off, as well as contact all my users and kindly ask them to do the same. It should be a global setting.

I dont even know how to auto play it just stops for me on Roku, samsung and android
