How to distinguish between multiple external eng.srt files

One workaround is to use alternate language codes for different subtitle tracks.

Use the No Linguistic Content code, zxx, for music only tracks.

Use codes for historical or extinct languages for other tracks, such as Old English or Middle English for commentary tracks.

It obviously does not make up for full identification of track names/types in the Plex clients. However, it does make it easy to differentiate between what you consider the primary subtitle track (dialogue) and any secondary subtitle tracks (music, trivia, commentary, etc).

From what I can tell, this works for MKV but not MP4 files.

I’ve movies in MP4 container with multiple English subtitle tracks. Each track is tagged with a different title. Plex Web correctly displays the language, but does not display the title.

If I remux to a MKV container then Plex Web correctly displays the title.

FYI, in addition to hosted Plex Web & Roku,

Supported in Plex for Windows and AppleTV (based on aforementioned Feature Suggestion).

Not supported in Plex Media Player (Windows) or Plex for Android/Android TV.

Unsure about other clients.

I’ll take your word for it and you can lead this band of angry villagers up Plex Hill - after you file a bug report… I’m not about to Promote LMA so it can read a name I give a track in an MP4 file. I don’t have a room at the looney bin quite yet…lol

BTW: is this shortcoming restricted to the New Agent or does it sweep clean?

BTW2: I was going to Mux an MP4 with Xmedia Recode (the only thing I have) and XR won’t even let me put anything, but an MOV in an MP4 - and I can’t give it a name anyway.

At my house an MP4 file is almost as notorious as an AVI file… not quite, but close and we may have a new Public Enemy #1 (figures, I have thousands of 'em and don’t have the 20 years it took to clean out the AVIs).

Just finished 17,000 AVI to MKV remux… That’s less then a quarter of the way through.

First my library was VHS…
then CD’s came along and converted them to AVI (don’t ask how long that took)
then DVD’s, hard-drives, some BlueRays, now I have 3 NAS units and overnight one runs outa disk space. Got a 12TB drive to install but first I need some space before I can add it to the array… But that removed two walls of book shelf’s with disk binders.

Definitely with new agent. Pretty sure it was same with old agent.

Both versions in separate longstanding libraries. Now using new agent on each library. Don’t remember it being different with the old agent.

I kept LMA at the bottom when using the old agent. I’m also very careful with my MP4s and make sure any embedded metadata is correct before putting them into a library.

A riot is an ugly thing…

I don’t know - it does have it’s occasional (albeit rare) moments:

The Villagers showed up…
… something wonderful happened - eventually - when the Villagers wouldn’t go back down the hill…
