[implemented] Actually keep transcoded tracks? (why transcode again on second play?)

I actually thought this was to allow a whole movie to buffer. I dont need this i like the transcoding thats what plex is all about :)

i think it said before, but every client and every internet-connection needs a different transcoded-stream. for example iPhone and Plex/Web needs to be transcoded to mp4. while Android doesn't.
or a connection requires a maximum of 4Mbps ... and the next time, u see the movie, the connection is dimensioned for 8Mbps ... then u kept the transcoded file for nothing.

I didn't say to kept the transcode. I said to allow transcoding aac audio in advance. You should read the whole thread first.

Apple TV wants aac. Roku wants aac. If you know you have clients that need aac, you can enable creation of a aac track when media is indexed

So since plex just takes the transcoding settings from the client that is playing it why couldnt I tell the server I want all my media in mp4 and 2mpbs bitrate, now go through my library and take anything that doesnt match this and transcode them. This way all my content is standardized across everything. Yes I realize that I can download my content in the same format and yes I realize that handbrake can batch encode things. I would just like to not have to worry about it and if everything is going to have to transcode anyways why not just do it when the server is idle?

I’m going to revive this because the exact feature i wanted in my last post has now been included in the newest plex media server update.
