Only the PMS transcoder.
I think that was the intention of this thread. What other support is missing? Are there devices capable of supporting H265 playback natively?

Are devices really ready for H.265 yet? I know the benefits of using it over H.264 but I don't know if our devices really ready for it, not to mention there are hardly any 4K contents if only for that.
H.265 doesn't have a lot of hardware support yet, and so it flattens CPUs.
THe A8 chip in the iPhone 6+ does it in hardware though...so it's coming...

Ah, good call. I think someone needs to create a request per client family (Win, Android, iOS, etc).
Use x265 preset of Fast or Medium at a minimum for good compression. I use CQ20 and am happy with it. If you want better quality use CQ 19 or 18. Based on my testing h.265 CQ18 is still 10-15% smaller than h.264 CQ20, with much greater quality. I also re-encode DTS to AC3 Dolby Digital. As the space isn't worth it for me on DTS.
You can also squeeze your encodes (x264, or x265) quite a bit by using denoise filter NLMeans Strong, though you should expect your encodes to go very slowly.
I've settled on the following:
HD: CQ20, framerate 23.976 x265, fast preset, with denoise filter NLMeans Medium, or Strong
AC3 Passthrough
SD: CQ18, framerate 23.976 x265, fast preset, with denoise filter NLMeans Light, or Medium
AC3 Passthrough, Detelecine default(my preference)
Animation can take much higher denoise while still looking good as well.
+1 vote for h.265 support

Why fast preset? You're ending up with bigger files just to complete the task quicker.
You have to watch using 23.976 as you should really sync this to the source frame rate.
Why are you using denoise and or detelecine on every movie? You should only use them on films that need it. These are NOT setting you just set and forget and use on everything.

Fast preset is the minimum worth using, but slower presets really get reduced payback for time encoding / space reduction. I denoise every one, it removes most of the grain and gets on average 30% file size reduction, while still looking great. It does reduce detail a bit however. You can vary the denoise, but try the nlmeans, it is worth it. I detelecine videos that have been telecined, thus putting them back to their appropriate fps of 23.976.
My sources are 23.976 or 29.97 fps. (edit)

IIRC, transcoding from h.265 to h.264 is already implemented. Not sure what that status of direct streaming h.265 to the few devices that support it is. Transcoding to h.265 is going to be a long, long, way off.
I have an HEVC capable TV (a Samsung es8000 with the 2014 smart evolution kit) and it is able to direct play HEVC encoded files without issue using the Plex Samsung app, I did have to force direct play, when leaving the app in automatic mode it transcodes.
+1 for HEVC support in PHT!
I posted a link in the forums people might want to take a look at if you want to encode HEVC.
H265 at some point will be a standard, so it’s a give this will be implemented eventually.
I want to have PHT direct play , Thanks +1
+1 for:
H.265 direct play
+1 vote for h265 support please.
+1 for H.265 direct play as well. I run PMS and PHT on three Mac Minis in the household and would love to make use of HVEC direct play.
