+1 for this. I love this feature on netflix, how hard can it be if they are already doing it.
I am absolutely certain Netflix had to employ many skilled developers working tireless, un-ending hours in order to make a UI that annoyed me so much I had to cancel.
I am shocked this bad idea hasnāt come to Plex already - and if Feature Suggestion Votes meant one dam thing it might, but⦠thereās no danger of that happening and I couldnāt be more pleased.
On my FireTV I hit FF once to skip ahead 30 seconds. Sometimes I even hit it twice if that pesky intro is a long one. On my Roku I hit Right-DPad 1 time/1 Preview Thumb - Per 10 Seconds. <ā approx 3 times, maybe 6 <ā way more annoying since Roku Inc developed a brain tumor and is passing that crazy on to us, but still itās not a big deal.
I would much rather Plex spend time on getting those aforementioned Preview Thumbs working on FireTV (HA! thatās a joke).
This would be a great feature to add. I would even be ok if it was a manual process where there was a field to add the time to jump to manually.
I think itās very hard to implement because most likely this is a manual process done by netflix , where an employee is setting this button for each episode there is.
Now letās say there are a few thousands of episodes on netflix, a plex user could have maybe 100000 episodes.
You would think netflix found a way to automate this process but I highly doubt it as most tv shows have the intro after a cold open.
Thinking that this was a manual process is simply silly. Iām not being judgmental because I donāt know your background. I work in the IT Industry as a cloud engineer and Iām rather familiar with several automation processes and know this is definitely possible.
I donāt ever want this feature added to Plex, it is completely useless and annoying and itās the reason I cancelled Netflix (along with the forced shrinking end credits). This feature is all about lazy people who donāt feel like fast forwarding normally to not watch parts of videos they donāt want to see. Well sorry but you people already have the ability to skip anything you donāt want to see without this. Are you really that lazy you need a pop up on the screen so you can skip with one click?
And then you think that gives you the right to plaster everyoneās screens with the pop ups? Not caring that you are ruining the viewing experience for those of us that never want to skip parts of the videos? Totally selfish and ridiculous! I am not getting pop ups on my screen asking me to skip things just because of you lazy selfish people.
+1 this would be a welcome addition. Even if I have to manually add start and end times Iād be okay with it. My 2 year old hates when the credits comes up. In the show she is watching now it displays credits in 5 different languages which can be pretty lengthy.
Are you really that lazy you need a pop up on the screen so you can skip with one click?
Iām even lazier than that. Iād prefer it to automatically skip all the intro/outro stuff without any popups or interaction from me; similar to how this VLC plugin works (Skip Intro/Outro Credits - addons.videolan.org). Granted, that is manually configured by me, but Iām fine doing that with my own media. It would be a cool feature to have media I havenāt manually configured with this skipping info to be auto-detected by Plex Media Server if I choose to enable it.
Iād suggest the ability to configure this feature based on the user profile watching it. That way you get what you want, and I get what I want.
A lot of times when features like this get added they are forced with no ability to shut it off. Exactly the way Netflix does it, which is why I prefer not to have features like this in the first place. But since you can already skip portions of the video you donāt want to watch with the controls that are already present there is no problem leaving things the way they are. If Plex adds this I know it will be forced and it will ruin the experience for people who actually want to watch the entire video without interruption.
I started some unofficial documentation for this feature in an attempt to properly document everything we want this feature to be. Feel free to fork or submit pull requests for modifications.
Absolutely ridiculous to waste time coming up with all of that when you can already skip intros with the fast forward button and then back out at the end credits and go to the next video. You can already skip everything you donāt want to see so all of this is pointless. And you are trying to get Plex to implement a feature (most likely forced with no shut off ability) that will ruin the video experience for normal people that actually want to watch the entire file without anything skipped. How about you just edit your files with video editing software and cut out all portions of the videos you donāt want so youāll never have to see them?
I donāt feel like itās a waste of time to document this feature based on feedback from all the input people have already documented on this feature suggestion. You are correct when you say we can already skip everything with the fast forward button, but that does not address the scenario I want this feature to solve: require no manual interaction on my part.
How about you just edit your files with video editing software and cut out all portions of the videos you donāt want so youāll never have to see them?
The reason I donāt do this is because that will affect everyone that uses my server. The reason why documenting this is not pointless is because I want this feature to address both your and my expectations. I donāt always want to skip the intros and outros, and if I edited them out of my files then Iād have no choice, and would be taking that choice away from others using my server.
Man youāre funny, Netflix =/= Plex, of course Netflix wouldnāt give you an option they donāt give you an option IN ANYTHING. Comparing Netflix to Plex is like comparing apples to oranges, Plex exists to be better than Netflix.
Have you even been the the Plex Server settings? Thereās quite a few options in there and quite a few places that this feature could easily have an ENABLE AND DISABLE button.
Anyways,
+1 for this feature because it is indeed a feature and one I would want
Ok, boomer.
Thatās a great article, I had no idea it worked like that!
Really makes this feature suggestion more possible!
like so many other feature requests, as long as it is optional, I donāt see any problem with it.
but just because you may want it (or not want it), does not mean other people feel the same.
Plex now offers a āskip introā button thatāll jump to the end of the intro.
This feature is available to Plex Pass members⦠Plex will automatically analyze your shows and determine when an intro starts/ends. However⦠as TeknoJunky pointed out ā thereās still a click that can be ignored by all those who want to see their intros.
