I am curious if there is a way the new Skip TV Show Intro can be improved to add a manual feature where you can provide say an XML or EDL file from a tool like MCEBuddy to manually define a TV Show intro. This would be handy for TV shows that do not automatically get detected by the new tool or for Shows that include a unique “Previously on” section at the beginning of the video. This would allow you to keep the “Previously on” part of the video but skip it while binge watching.
This!
Loving the skip intro feature, but it would be amazing if us OCD folk could adjust the generated intro markers, and add our own skip markers for “previously on…”/intros/outros/etc.
XML files would work, but it would also be great to see it built into the UI of the player.
Here’s my suggestion for this feature
Since the feature ‘Skip intro’ has been introduced to series, I would like to propose the following.
in properties for an episode, add a tab named ‘Intro/Recap’ or something more accurate.
In this tab you can put four time fields.
2 for recap:
Start of recap: mm:ss (default: 00:00)
End of recap: mm:ss (default: 00:00)
2 for intro:
Start of intro: mm:ss (default: 00:00)
End of intro: mm:ss (default: 00:00)
Maybe they need checkboxes to be activated?
Also if any of these exist from online sources they can be pre-filled into the slots.
I realize that the times is just an approximation as the jumps in video files require keyframes to start from. I can be super wrong here and probably am. But if that is the case, that you can only jump to keyframes the plex server can figure out the closest keyframe before the time set by user and update the input field.
Then, when you play the episode you get a button to opt to skip the recap or intro.
Just a thought

+1 for Figeluren suggestion.
Would love to see a field to input start & end time for intro/recap.
+1 to this suggestion. This will help in a few cases where I find Plex doesn’t detect the intro automatically:
- Shows with different intros in the same season
- Shows with intros that could be either full length or shorter version
+1. I also would like to have a manual override on the zones or skip regions. Something like this perhaps.
Basically an unlimited “spread sheet” inside a settings tab. When you enter text into the last row of cells it would create a new empty row and scroll bars if needed. So basically you could have as many skip zones as you wanted, or could go in and rename the button that shows up.
Might could even put a fourth column with a dropdown for an auto skip feature that contained:
- obey global settings
- obey series settings
- auto skip
- manual skip
Another plus+1 vote!
I would recommend that there should also be a box to “Lock” the settings. Currently if the time stamps are manually added to the Plex sqlite3 database directly they will get over written when adding a new show to the series/season.
Is there any progress on this Plex? How do we fix shows that auto detect the wrong intro like the studio logo intro at the start of the episodes instead of the proper intro a few minutes in?
+1
I don’t have vote anymore ^^
The “detect intros/credits” feature is usually pretty accurate and I have been impressed with it’s overall capabilities, but there are times where it incorrectly identifies intros and/or credits. It would be great if there was a way to override/edit the detected values on a per episode/per movie basis.
Good example of this is Family Guy - s16e04 - Follow the Money. The builtin credits detection triggered on the ‘false credits’ near the end of the show as the episode was playing a spoof on being filmed (19:55), but the duration that skip credits was available directly via the app ended before the actual/true episode credits began (21:04). It’d be nice to be able to edit that in my local DB so I can set the skip credits to start @ 21:04.
I see that this has been an open request for 5 years now, with duplicate requests being linked and subsequently closed. Any chance we can see something added soon? That would be much appreciated, thanks!
