Optimize / Transcode content in parallel

Even something as brutish as a fixed percentage makes 100x more sense than a fixed number of HT cores.

You mean the way a VC-1 encode grinds everything to a near-halt 'cause it’s only using one ‘Thread’ (that means ‘Core’ at my house) out of the 8 available?

I think we can all safely say - if there were a button wherein whatever we’re doing would use all we got - we dam sure might push the button and have it do what we’d like it to do - since we’re there to push the button and can see what’s happening around us.

True, If you tell it to use 3 out of 4 cores and a process thats limited to one core comes online and uses 100% of that core you could run into a lock, using the 80% method you would most likely already using part of that core, that would require Plex to start backing off as the other process ramps up.

Again, ffmpeg has no such option to limit cpu usage currently. Won’t happen that way until it does. Probably there is a reason for it.

… and, you know…

We’re dealing the an ‘Optimized Version’.
Even if we did have an ‘easy/self destruct’ button, once the ‘version’ is made we have to fight Plex over what to do with it:

rtcobb2

…and after we get the snot beat out us for a while…
couldn’t we have already had that thing Handbroke and be watching it?

I can’t keep from thinking that the Plex Optimization Sequence is simply flawed as far as ‘Users’ are concerned.

True. The default paths is pretty useless too. The only benefit over just using Handbrake yourself is not having to navigate the file paths and having automated queuing.

That’s true, but most users today want that done for them… Just adding a click to an interface option creates forum issues…
Asking them to take the time to optimize it correctly manually… unheard of nowadays.

Then again we are asking non IT admin users, to admin a server…

No, we’re merely asking for people competent enough to admin their server to be given a hidden option to do so!

Done

Upvote! Agree, being restricted to 1 core is ridiculous. I often peaking at 100% which can cause buffering issues and have 7 other cores doing nothing…

Thought it was just me, i can’t optimize anything all of a sudden.
No errors just the transcoder is only using .1% of the CPU and next to no memory

Tried reinstalling Plex to no avail.

Not to mention the Location where the Metadata option has seemingly been removed.
You can access it in the registry but the advanced option on the Web interface is gone.

Weirdly tho even after uninstalling and reinstalling it still had the old location selected in the registry even tho it was a custom location
