Plex Media server is on an "Indirect" connection when off LAN network

Same issue with local files showing as remote. So I disabled the secure connections… then it wouldn’t show me any libraries. I turned it back to preferred and all of a sudden things are showing playing as local again.

Local stuff showing remote is an easy fix, simply go to the network settings and add your LAN(s) to there. This is a common issue for people using PMS inside Docker, since it puts it in its own network within docker, so your LAN in your house is considered “remote” at that point.

Sometimes the easy fix does the trick. Had same issues, just disabled the “Secure Connections”
Log out and back in and set it to prefered again.
Log out and back in.
Wupti all works again.

This works for me…sorta. Servers show indirect but 1 of them is working now anyway…kinda

Hello there. Thanks so much for this. Have been faced with an indirect connection now for a long time. Only one problem though. I can’t see a way to get to the settings you mention in order to make the changes. Which tabs or links should I look for? Please

Hey Guys I have been struggling with this too. The way I fixed it is to change the DNS server of the device to something external, instead of using the routers DNS.

So try and change your DNS on your pc to 1.1.1.1

Thanks hbekkaya, this resolved my issue.

My ROKU was sending a “HTTP GET /identity” to to plex but because the plex setting Network > Secure Connections was “Required” it failed. After I changed it to “Preferred” it work on a local connection.

This is probably because ROKU never succeeded in establishing a TLS (HTTPS) tunnel first.
