Sqlite3 is too slow for our needs.
I’m running NVMe drives, it doesn’t get much faster than that pal.
It is true that SQLite cannot compete with full client/server database setups, but that’s not what it’s meant for. Also, Plex is designed for residential use where the user doesn’t need to setup a full client/server database on their own. If you’ve exceeded the abilities of SQLite, then you are using Plex well beyond it’s intended target. You may want to consider switching to a more rebust commercial product.

There is always RAM drives.
But you are right, not much else faster.
MovieFan is also right, if your library is so large and so busy that it exceeds the performance of sqlite on nvme drives, then perhaps plex isn’t for you.

Just a question…is everyone that’s having this problem running on unRAID? Would this be tied to the sqlite/docker issues with the latest unRAID?

you run unraid under a nvme drive ? not on usb key ?

I’ve had this problem for awhile, on unRAID. Very well could be tied to last big OS update I did to 6.7 long ago.
My docker containers updated/restarted every Saturday night, and often by Thursday Plex would hang. I’ve changed to daily restarts as a bandaid, however this week I’ve had a larger than normal amount of content adds, and every evening I’m having to restart.
Definitely possibility unRAID related!

I repaired database according to your settings, but did not help.
After a while plex does not respond anymore. What the hell is going on?

I am having this same issue. I am running unraid 6.8.0 was there ever resolution that people have found?
AFAIK in 6.8.0 after a lot of back and forth with limetech on the unraid forums, they finally patched what was causing database corruption with most things sqlite. Are you having issues with other sqlite apps or just plex?
Also getting this issue multiple times per day on Version 1.18.4.2171.
Never had these issues on 1.17.x.
About time Plex started using a modern database.

To zombie this thread and help anyone else experiencing this issue I recommend the following.
I used this method over a week ago and have quite a few users and very large libraries.
Back up your DB first, and YMMV.
Concurrent streams are up quite a bit after this change for me, so users seem to like this change as well.

1. Stop Plex
2. Locate your Plex DB. cd plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases
3. sqlite3 com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
PRAGMA default_cache_size = 6000000;
Press CTRL + D
4. Start Plex.

Sorry for reviving a dead thread. But I’ve been looking forever for another product aside from Emby/Jellyfin that could do what Plex could do. You seem to be knowledgeable of alternatives, commercial or otherwise. I can’t seem to find anything that comes close. If there is another product that has the similar functionality please tell us! I do not mind how hard it is to set it up, even if it requires some programming/scripting! Even if it’s spendy I still want to know what the product is. Thanks!

I was actually referring to using whatever streaming companies like Netflix use. I’m guessing these are proprietary and custom built, which might be what’s needed. My comment was mainly that Plex is designed for home/residential usage. If Plex can’t keep up then you are probably no longer in the home/residential space and need something else.
I’m only aware of one other high end solution similar to how Plex works and yes it is very pricey. https://www.kaleidescape.com/
