PlexConnectApp (working title) - PlexConnect for AppleTV4 clone

Yes, official plex works and I can find the PMS on other devices too.

To be precise I get the following:

TITLE
Plex Media Server: no items available

on all the tabs

I had the same problem until I logged into my plex.

I’m sure give it time the dev’s of PlexConnect will fix this. Myplex sign in seems pretty simple to fix this, for now.

I tried logging in but still the same result. I notice that the “discover” filed under settings has

Online: 0

indicating it could not find any PMS

So it actually is running. It gives you feedback that there is no PMS in sight…
Login to myplex. Publish your server. Make sure your Router does allow rebinding to local adresses.

that was it ! I had to login both on the Apple TV as well as on the PMS. Working fine. Thank you!

Also: Implemented the first ever pull-request for PlexConnectApp. Thanks for that!

You’re welcome

In the ATV topics I have raised the idea to integrate ffmpeg to the plex app itself. Would this be an idea for this clone project ? In case it does not make it in the official app. There is source code available on github (for a dlna player) which enables this and could be included.

I started writing my own app, until I found this, with the sole purpose of integrating ffmpeg. So if it doesn’t find its way into this I will certainly be trying to implement it into a fork of my own. (And potentially merge later). And if I don’t succeed, I’m sure someone else will.

  1. Pull the GitHub.
  2. Open PlexConnectApp in Xcode
  3. Connect your aTV4 to your Mac using a USB-C cable, the aTV needs to be powered on already , mine is also connected to a display, not sure weather it work if no display is connected.
  4. Change the active Scheme to your aTV device.
  5. Press the play button

Could someone explain this a bit more clearly for a total newbie to Xcode - I just can’t get this to come up right,

Did you read this one - on the first page of this thread. XCode needs to create some signatures and so on, but Roidy’s process was more or less accurate.

Haven’t done it myself yet…

PS: in the meantime I am running it on real hardware, too.

I did read it , yes. Didn’t understand it!

Could you please be more specific in what’s not working? Ie point to a step that errors out or is not clear to you - I don’t feel like re-writing the complete page here, nor do I think it would help a lot…

Here you are: https://miapple.me/sideload-apps-on-apple-tv-4-wthout-jailbreak/

It says: 8: On the top bar of Xcode, right beside the Play and Stop buttons, select where it reads the name of your project > [projectname]TV-release, and from the corresponding drop-down menu, choose the connected Apple TV from the list of available devices.

I don’t get a dropdown of devices - all I see is “My Mac” when obviously I need Apple TV. In Xcode when I go to Devices I can see it.

It looks like I might have been using an older version of Xcode (which App Store had NOT updated). Now I get message "An App ID with Identifier’-PlexConnectApp’ is not available. Please enter a different string.

What do I do now?

Yeah - happens here, too. XCode doesn’t seem to be happy with the “-” sign in the ID. Just replace it with an “a” or something should be fine. I kind of postponed this change until we got the “real” name…

Thanks baa! Thought I was going nuts. I’ll try it when I get home.

Are you going to put the app up in the App Store?

Don’t know yet… should I?

Yes sure, if u you upload it to the appstore, i could help you with the charges of a developper id?
