POC: Enabling Plex to Play BluRay ISOs

Gonna bump this since its been 5 years.

It would be great for plex to support ISOs of blu ray and dvd content.

As for as the UX experience goes, titles which have associated ISO files should “just play the same” as any other title. In the metadata will be a reference to which playlist is associated with the movie.

This correlation metadata will be retrieved automatically from a central repository on library updates, along with release dates synopsis etc etc.
This would also provide an opportunity to compile volume normalization/dynamic range metadata.

Additionally, extra features, which (I honestly don’t know where plex pulls them from now) can be pulled from the ISO, along with an option to launch the original DVD menu (which someone might want to do just to check out some of the more elaborate dvd menus… for example The Abyss.)

the menu would never be supported, plex doesn’t provide the mechanisms to do that. The only way to support “iso/fs” playback would be to enumerate / filter playlists via some mechanisms and stream them directly (As that’s what plex does, it streams multimedia files), but anything that uses interactive features of the DVD/BluRay would never be able to be supported (as plex exists today).

With that said, back when they were trying to do game streaming, that could have supported the mechanism for this (i.e. input remoting), but that was abandoned.
