Request: Play MPEG2 LiveTv

@sergiou87 I see the latest 2.6.4 release for Roku has a MPEG2 control button, but HDHOMERUN Prime fed MPEG2 streams still are transcoding and shows buffer and die with “weak signal” error. Is Plex team aware of this?
Thanks

so are you saying that live tv will be deinterlaced and fed to all player types like fire tv? If so, great! I can’t wait!

@spacehound I’m sorry but I’m only an iOS / tvOS developer, for Roku questions you should go to the Roku subforum

Hmmm not exactly: right now all players should be getting deinterlaced live tv because the transcoder deinterlaces it.

However, thanks to the enhanced player, we can deinterlace it during playback and avoid transcoding entirely. And that’s what we’re working on

Hi @sergiou87 - I see that Plex 1.39 was released today with ‘Added Live TV support to the enhanced video player’. Please could you shine more light on what this means?

Also, just want to make sure I am understanding correctly. At a high level, the thing you’re working on… this would in theory, allow me to watch a tv live stream on tvOS from my Plex server (for uk is MPEG2) without it transcoding? As the transcoding right now is unusable and killing my server.

Yes, exactly.

This will now allow support for interlaced MPEG2 and h264 Live TV to be played back directly on tvOS and iOS devices.

Fantastic ! Now if only the enhanced player would become available to my Plex Home users :pray:
