Serenity for Android 1.4.3

Dlanor have you checked out the various navigation shortcuts?

https://github.com/NineWorlds/serenity-android/wiki/Remote-and-Keyboard-Controls

I hadn't checked that list before, but found most relevant gamepad buttons on my OUYA gamepad anyway, just by trial and error.
However, there are no navigation shortcuts at present that will allow fast browsing of complete show list, without skipping content.

L1 and R1 move 10 poster steps per jump, but the screen only shows 7. It would help a lot to have the jump length as a setting...

Then scrolling speed-freaks could turn it up, and content fanatics like me could tune it down to display all (jump length 7).

For the present I make do with always using "First Letter" filters, as that's the only method that works well for me.

(For shows that is. For movies I mostly use complete list in grid mode.)

Grid view is coming for episodes Btw in 1.4.4. Give me about a week.

Great! I'm looking forward to it. :)

I do this part time.

I realize that, and didn't mean to rush you.

It's just that in another reply you made last week I got the (mistaken?) impression that you already planned this addition for the then coming weekend (meaning the previous one now), so this week I got worried that your plans might have changed to exclude it altogether. But as long as it stays on the to-do list there's no immediate hurry.

Best regards: dlanor

I try to do weekly maintenence releases to fix reported bugs and add some enhancements that are fairly minor to implement. Items like the grid view I usually wait until a larger point release but there are some additional items I need in the season view in order to add the Add All context menu. So that is why it has been pushed farther out.

Keep an eye here or for more frequent status updates watch the Google plus page for Serenity. I’m more active there than here on development status.

Bought a copy of Serenity this weekend for running on my MK809 stick.. with decent WiFi signal I'm really happy that the internal player seems quite happy playing back all but the highest bit rate 1080p .mkvs (which is almost certainly down the a WiFi bandwidth bottleneck and not Serenity) :-)

One quite question/little feature request (if its even possible)..  I know there's the ability to set the "default" filter for all sections when you open them (e.g. "All", "Recently Added" etc.)...  is it possible to have an alternate setting that just "remembers" the previous setting used in each section?  i.e. I'm in my movie section and have it set to "Recently Added", but in my "TV Shows Ongoing" section, I may have changed the filter to "All"..  when I flip between them, Serenity remembers which filter I was using?

Just a thought.. :-)  And keep up the good work!

Yes, that feature has already been requested.

Once that is implemented you'll be able to set different starting filters for Movies and TV Shows.  Right now they are combined.  I plan on this for one of the 1.4.x maintenance releases.  Need to get the TV Show Grid view implemented first though as that is being requested a lot lately as more people use the app.

That's great news.. but given its highly possible users may have more than a single "TV" or "Movie" section.. I just thought it may be more versatile for each section a user has, to be able to remember the last filter that was used with it..

For example, I have "TV Shows - Completed" (i.e. shows that are finished or have been cancelled) and "TV - Shows Ongoing" (shows that are still airing)... a blanket "starting filter" for all things "TV" is fine but not very flexible.  Of course, it may be that recording the state of the filter for each section a user has, is too complex but I just thought I'd get it out there :-)

Let's start with the simple thing, and then move beyond that.  While I want to cater to the power users out there, I also want to keep it as simple as possible for the average user that just wants to play videos as quickly as possible.   There are some ways to do the category filters, per Library section.    Could have an option in the side menu to have it "Set Default Category" based on the library.  Lower priority on the list though compared to some other features I personally need. :)

No worries mate - and good luck with the development :-)

I found a small bug in Grid view and items that have a Progress indicator.  It is swallowing the onClick event for these items.   I've fixed this for 1.4.4, and I'm working on adding the TV Show Grid View now.  So I'll have a new version out in the next day or so for testing.  keep an eye on the forums for when it is available.

For now, you can go to Details view, and play the movies that way until 1.4.4 is released.
