I found one other situation where the Watched flag isn't being updated after playback but that appears to be only the internal player. Once I have that addressed I'll release 1.5.0-M3 in a few days.
Alright, 1.5.0-M3 is available, I fixed the last remaining issue with the internal player and watched status.
https://github.com/NineWorlds/serenity-android/wiki/Downloads#150-m3-available
There will be 1.5.0-M4 so anything that wasn't fixed in this version will be addressed in the next version.
Some feedback on 1.5 M3
-> the screen update is really real time, so for the test it is simlper to see what it happen.
-> when we stop the video in the middle (Pause then exit) -> no problem it work fine; the status is set at the right duration and restart correctly -> fine, better than before because the watched bar is updated in real time
-> when we stop the video near the end (Pause then exit) -> no problem the status is correctly set to watched -> fine better than before because the watched status is updated in real time.
-> when we stop the video with "stop" button and then exit -> no update (it worked well in in 1.4.5)
-> when we let the movie to finish alone whithout pushing any button -> no update (it worked well in 1.4.5)
All these tests have been done with episodes at episodes level from a show season, but I suppose we will find same behaviour from the deck or movies; using MX player pro.
hope it helps

These two I didn't test. I'll add these to testing for this weekend or tomorrow.
Update:
* The first one I can't replicate. I did the following, started the video playing, moved the position to about half way through the video. Hit pause, and then hit Back to exit MX Player. When it returned it updated the position correctly.
* The second one I can replicate with MX Player.

To replicate the first one, do not use the Paise/start button, use the stop (square) button, they do not react in the same way.
But what is strange is that in 1.4.5 the Pause button was uptating nothing, and Stop button was working perfectly toggling the watched status.

I think I have these fixed. I don't see a STOP button on the on screen display for MX Player. In any case I think I have it fixed along with the completion of play back. Will have an update probably later tomorrow for you to test.
Hi,
Other test -> when I "EXIT" (back button) of MX Player pro without any other button during the play -> there is no update of the watched status
Hi,

Definitely can't reproduce that. As every time I exit with MX Player Pro, it updates the watched status either with the progress or the Watched indicator.
Did you uninstall the app and then install the new version, or install over the top? I've seen some odd issues in the past when upgrading over the top (but mainly when I've been doing development deployments from Eclipse). Usually an uninstall and reinstall of the app fixes things.
Moscard please try the update 1.5.0-M3a development version:
https://github.com/NineWorlds/serenity-android/wiki/Downloads#150-m3a-available
Also make sure you aren't using MX Player as a System Default player, and are using it as a selected Preferred player, otherwise you won't get full functionality on the updates.
About 1.5.0 M3a
- Nice all is updating well but the STOP button. I suppose it is an issue of MX Player which reset the position at the beginning of the video using this button. In fact it update the status as totally unwatched -> ok. Need to know, that's it
Just a small thing:
When we Watch partially a video and get out of MX it is updated ok. Then we toggle the watched status -> it toggle ok to watched. Then re-toggle the watched status trying to set it to unwatched -> THIS time it do not change. We have to escape one menu up and return to make it able to toggle this watched status to unwatched.

Okay, I'll add it to the list of clean up items to work on.
About 1.5 M2a
-> a lot better, the option works yet and the status is updated correctly but on the deck. When we choose a video from the deck, the status is updated only the first time, after it seems it maintains always the first position in memory, even the "toggle" status do uptade the status properly. We have to go back on another filter menu like " recently viewed show" to set the status correctly. In "Recently viewed show" all is working fine.
-> about the pop up menu asking to resume or restart
- is that possible to set the default focus on "Resume" not on restart ?
- Is that possible to translate this pop up as well ?
I tried to replicate the issue you are experiencing with "On Deck", and haven't been able to so far with the Nexus 7 and using MX Player Pro. Here is what I did.
1. Went to TV Shows and selected the On Deck category.
2. Selected the first show to play.
3. Skipped forward to about half way through and stopped playback.
4. When it returned to the screen, the progress was updated correctly.
5. Backed out of the On Deck View and switched to another, and then back to On Deck. Progress was correct and the correct video was still waiting to be completed.
6. Selected playback of the video, and skipped ahead to about 1 minute left in the video. Stopped playback.
7. When return to the On Deck screen, video was removed and the next video to watch was visible for play back.
8. Went back to the TV Shows screen, selected category "All" and then selected the TV Show that contained the episode.
9. Verified that the episode was marked as Watched.
If you are still having problems, I suggest trying the following. Find the series that you are having problems with, and then Toggle the Watched and Unwatched status for the series (if you have a lot of episodes in the series it could take Plex a bit to go through and update everything). Once you have them all marked as Unwatched, try going through the above process and see if things are being more consistent. In the past Serenity could leave some resume offset data in place for Watched episodes that may have been messing with the On Deck functionality on plex.
Another note, I've externalized the Resume text and will get the necessary translations in place, and the Recently Viewed Shows has been added as an option to the TV Shows preferred catagories drop down.
Nice,
Do not waste your time about the M2a issue, it is not more present in M3.
In this all is working just fine in regards to video playback with MX video player.
Of course there are other needs up, such go back in shows & Seasons. And also "recently viewed show" as starting filter.
However, all is working just fine, and these things are just nice to have.
Great job

Recently Viewed Shows has been added as a starting filter and will be in the next milestone.
For the remaining issues please open bug reports with steps to reproduce on the github site.
Version 1.5.0-M4 is available for testing. I'm considering this a release candidate version.

All seems just fine.
I like the filter "Recently wieved show", many thanks.

Hello,
I buy this software on android and this was a bad idea for me. Because with Serenity you can not use the myplex option in the plex server. On my lokal network I want to decide who can view the one or other section of my PMS and I controll this over the myplex account. So I switch the option on in the PMS that says "even on local network you have to sign in with myplex". This does not work with Serenity!!!
If you use Serenity you have to open your PMS for everyone in your local network. I think this is very stupid.
Does Serenity work on phones as well? I have a Nexus 5 with Stock KitKat and I can't get it to work. FC everytime.

No it currently isn't designed for phones. Only tablets and Android TV devices. It may work if the device reports itself as a large device, but most phones even those with a 5 inch display report themselves as Medium screen sizes, and thus can't find the layouts needed. With this said, I am looking at updating Serenity so that will have some phone style layouts. But I won't begin work on that until sometime next year.
Source code is available on the projects GitHub site if anybody wants to help get it working on a Phone.
