I think what they MAY be referring to is the resolution/quality profiles. When set to e.g. 4 Mbps, with H264 it transcodes down to 720p, while with HEVC even 1080p would be ok.
But IIRC the profile always only referred to the bitrate and the resolution was only a guess.
So the question is, will HEVC maybe transcode to 1080p within the 4 Mpbs quality profile?

What I can tell you is that the resolution/quality profiles are on our radar. Changing it is going to be non-trivial and we need time to figure out how to do it right.

Holy cow what fantastic news, I was getting tired of maintaining both Plex and Jellyfin just for remote streaming sake.
This feature has now been promoted from “forum preview” to an “experimental feature” in the public releases.
