Unable to install Plex version 1.18.2 until current (1.19.1.2701) on Ubuntu 2020.04

Same story here - lirc out - PLEX server in - lirc back in use. So in my Ubuntu 20.04 AMD 64 bit exactly same story with lirc and PLEX compatibility. Now I will wait for few versions until upgrade PLEX to see has there been some changes related on this excact issue.

This worked for me and I have no need for the remote control support - thx!

@vampyrex13, thanks. I was able to figure it out.

Lirc pakcage got updated today in my Ubuntu. I will now give a shot for upgrading a plex server too in weekend. If none complains about this issue within a month or two we can probably assume that lirc update in Ubuntu solved the case.

Problem exist still - Plex server updated in weekend to currently latest 1.19.4.xxx and installation crashes same error as long as LIRC package is installed. Thumbs up for “vampyrex13” for tracking this to lirc and by that we have a decent workaround.

So in Ubuntu 20.04 lirc package and Plex server are still incompatible and waiting for fix. Until that I keep lirc out from my system to see is there any affect anywhere for missing that package.

I am also affected by this problem, running Ubuntu 20.04 and plexmediaserver 1.19.4.2935-79e214ead. I had to uninstall lirc to complete the plex media server upgrade, to then install lirc again.

Does anyone know if the Plex development team is aware of this issue?

we are aware of it,

It’s a Ubuntu 20.04 problem. Same binaries install on 18 & 19 ok.
Our only dependency is glibc >= 2.14.1

Thank you ChuckPa.

Looking deeper into the issue, I have found a very nice guide to stop using lirc and use the Linux kernel ir support instead. It works great for what I need it for
