Volume leveler

The current public release of PMP (top of forum, downloads, get an app) has a very nice Downmix Normalization feature… providing you use the TV View Mode (expand via the ‘arrows’ to ‘Full Screen’ to enable enhanced settings).

I fully expect Plex to mess this up on the next release. It never fails.

Apart from that - if limited to standard Apps - Normalize audio tracks with Xmedia Recode:

Yea, bitching about it not being available for use in Plex is a lot of fun, but in the end, if you want something Plex doesn’t do - do it yourself. It only takes a few minutes. Make it part of your pre-processing ritual. I do.

Some general XR tips:
Multi-channel (AC3 5.1) - 83 to 85db for TV Shows (generally already compressed to some degree) - Movies 86 to 89db.
AC3 2.0 - you can run that up to 90db. 89db is the industry standard, but my sound device tolerates and appreciates 90db. Don’t over-do it. You’ll be sad.

AAC 5.1 - there is no good reason to use this
AAC 2.0 - make sure you only use LC - Main will sound like a Train Wreck on most devices.
Use the Fraunhoffer AAC. I find it the most compatible across devices.
