So after updating to version 1.3.1 I have noticed that files that used to be able to direct play are now transcoding using High CPU (synology DS1512+ NAS). Files work fine on windows 10 playback or to my Samsung TV from the synology so something has changed after the update… When I play almost all file son the Xbox one the synology CPU now hits 98% after a few seconds. Could the update have broken the native play back of MKV from the Xbox One ?
The file below I have listed was created using the new optimize feature on the server to change the play back on the Xbox one, the file details are below

I can see a few people are having the same issue so though I would create this at the top so we can all get help.
Please let me know if you see the same issues on any box even if you have the CPU to transcode my xbox one seems to be using a lot more backend processing than before
Thanks! Sorry, I dropped this with all the spinning not-starting issues.
This looks like it should Direct Play - unless you have enabled subtitles? (long shot, I know). Oh, and the details above aren’t an MKV files, but mp4, but again, I think that should work ok.
Feel free to DM me a sample of the video and I can debug from here.
I can confim that i have not enabled subtites, i was trying some TV that was recorded last night in MKV and the same issue happend, fine of the samsung tv not on the xbox one… Let me see if i can download a sample file with the same issue and send you it over though it does seem to be them all with our without subtites. The issuee is the CPU on the synology just does not the the powet to transcode so native playback is the only way to play for some of us
I will create a sample file and send it over ASAP, will use my work PC tomorrow to make the file. I have also noticed that plex sometimes go dark and does not get light again. I am guessing an issue the the Kinect noticing no one is in the room then not passing the light up command back to plex when you are back in the room or click a button on the remote or controller. A reboot of the console is the only way to get plex to light up again… Anyone having this issue ? Will send file ASAP
I have added a 55MB sample file, hard coded subs so not a problem with Xbox one and trascoding them
Let me know if you have the same problem with this file
@crazysteve2k I have tried your sample file and it direct plays just fine for me. Can you confirm that the sample file you created still transcodes when you try direct playing it? Can you also check that you have Direct Play/Direct Stream both enabled in the app settings? And also that when the file is playing, press the A button and go to the ... menu to confirm that the Original quality is selected? If so then please PM a copy of your server log when attempting to play the sample file to me.
for me I had not seen it when I transcode not needed.
I just put the original quality and it works again.
it is normal that the CPU goes to 100% when it transcodes? I have a DS1511 +
Just to confirm I know the synology do not have enough power to transcode files, they don’t have the CPU speed to do so when using the Xbox it needs to play the file native with no transcoding.
Ok so after a lot of playing about it seem that the issue is after the update all my files now choose to transcode and not play native, clicking the button and changing to original now works, but it seems i have to set a lot of them from 3mb to orignal. This is now working as its not transcoding.
Thank you all for the help, i have a work around that is now working for me,
Seems once they have been set they remember to alway play that way

Interesting. I’m not sure why the default quality would have changed after the update, but I’m glad it’s working for you now!
I saw this too that the default quality changed to 3 mbit after the update for my 1080p movies (I checked because the picture wasn´t that crisp anymore).
Had to change it back 2 or 3 times, now I hope it “sticks”.
I have been having the same problem. I think I figured it out tonight. Go into the video settings on the Xbox and tick the allow 24hz ON. This, and making sure subtitles are off (as they are hardcoded) means you should be able to watch video without transcoding. Mine still transcodes very high bitrate files (20,000 kbps+ 1080p files), but 12-15k kpbs works OK. Hope this helps.
