Xbox One still transcoding mkv Files on Synology 214play

Hi!
I wanted to replace my old AppleTV2 , so now the xBox One is here.
PMS is running on my Synology DS214play (0.9.14.4)
xBox is on latest available Release (10.0.10586.1024)
Plex App on xBox: 1.4

every time i start a movie, the transcoding process on synology starts (New Plex Transcoder), of course the movies are lagging. (mkv File, h264, 1080p)

DirectPlay and Direct Stream on xBox Plex App is enabled.

Also tried a few things out of this thread LINK

Did i miss some settings, or isn’t this a good setup constellation?

Thanks in advance for a hint, regards from Austria

Tom

Hi

Most movie releases have DTS sound.

Could you check if this is also true for your movies? - In that case the file has to be transcoded because Xbox One can only play AAC or AC3 audio streams.

Then the lagging is evident because of the weak NAS CPU …

i also tried with the sample file out of the other thread, which is AAC (castle…) - still transcoding

by the way:
i can’t find any settings on xbox concerning data rate (direct play, 20Mbit, 10 Mbit…) . in my settings i can only enable or disable direct play. are there less settings on xbox than on apple tv or chromecast? i.e. i can’t change subtitle language … maybe i am slow on the uptake

do you think DTS support will come in future?

thanks for your help

You can change the quality by hitting ‘A’ while the video is playing and then choosing […] and set the quality to Original => Yes this would also be a cause for transcoding!

DTS support is completely up to Microsoft. You can only guess

very nice! that was the problem. now i changed to “original”, and everything runs smooth. even dts 5.1 is ok, transcoding process is starting, but ds214play seems to have enough power to handle that, it never comes over 25% cpu load.
thanks a lot for that!

But do not try to enable any subtitle. Your Synology will explode :-), because the have to be burned into the video stream :frowning:

Hope there will be a better sub handling in the (near?) future…

The plan is to work on soft subtitles (ie subtitles that are rendered by the Xbox and not burned into the video stream) but there has not been a time frame released for that feature.
