I posted about this before in the general forum, but I think a formal feature request is appropriate.
I am requesting for the ability for each user to be able to set their own “Include in dashboard” setting for libraries shared with them (defaulting to included). The feature already exists, it just needs to be expanded to included rules for specific users. Currently, if the server user does not want to see content from a particular library on their dashboard, they can uncheck “Include in dashboard” for that library. However, this currently removes that library from showing up on the dashboard (On Deck, Recently Added, etc.) for all users that library may be shared with.
Example
Say I have three TV show libraries: my shows, my wife’s shows, and my kid’s shows. I share each person’s library with their account (wife’s plex account, kid’s managed home account), they only see their content. On my account, I see everyone’s content on my dashboard, but my content get’s lost in Recently Added. So, I uncheck “Include in dashboard” for those respective libraries. But now the other two users have a dashboard that tells them they have no content (literally). They cannot see anything until they dive down into a specific library.
Solution? Let each user control how the content they have access to is presented to them by “Include in dashboard” for libraries themselves. This way, when a server owner decides they don’t want a library to populate on their dashboard, it does not remove it for everyone else also.
What are the other solutions to this problem?
1. Create a plex server for each user to host their content.
This is quite a bit overkill, negates all usefulness of plex home, and creates a whole slew of other issues.
2. Create a new managed account for the main user and share specific libraries with them.
Aside from having to go manually change watched status for items in this new account, there is now a paid plex pass account that exist only to own the server. This is not an ideal solution, again adding unneeded complexity to a tool that aims for ease or use.
Is this option suitable for regular users? (Is this unneeded complexity?)
I think it simplifies the user experience. In reality, most users will never even see this or need to change it. They likely are interested in having content that is shared with them on their dashboard. Libraries that are shared with you should always default to being shown on your dashboard, regardless of how the content owner has their dashboard configured.
