Sync/Optimize including metadata to second (mobile) server (e.g. WD My Passport Wireless Pro)

Hi, longtime (happy) plex user here.

I purchased the new WD My Passport Wireless Pro (WD) and I use optimize to transfer content from the primary plex server to it, as suggested.

This works quite good, but the metadata is not transferred. If I use the WD as a server a lot of metadata is missing (exotic climbing videos etc.). I have to redo manually what I already did at my main server… this is annoying.

Please give me an option to sync/transfer to my WD with correct metadata, no need to redownload or add manually everything again.

Thanks, Georg

I think this is also useful for having servers in two locations, with mirrored collections. I’d like the servers to sync watched status with each other.

It’s also worth emphasizing the “optimize” portion of this. As the WD Passport Wireless Pro can’t transcode, it’d be awesome if you could not only sync the content and metadata, but copy over optimized versions based on a list of target clients.

Yes, +1 for this. I want to use the WD Passport Wireless Pro as a travel server, and so I imagine this could work a lot like device sync, where I could choose it as a destination and set the quality to be optimized. Ideally WD Wireless Pro would be a preset when it is the destination.

While the “optimize” solution does get the files there, it makes sense to offer a means of allowing two server to sync play position, watch status, etc.

Getting same problems when I transfer onto the WD Wireless Pro. The PLEX server on the Pro does not seem to be as good at matching the correct metadata to the media as the PLEX server I have on my dedicated machine.

I have user accounts for my kids to restrict content to the appropriate ages but with out metadata they can not see it.

One solution I have found so far is to open the movie and press refresh which normally fixes the problem.

I would like to also see a sync option to optimize select items on my main server to the WD server, specifically On Deck.

This is old, but as far as I can tell, still not possible? This seems like a great solution for mobile viewing. Syncing the media files is easy enough by just plugging it in, but being able to quickly sync the metadata would be awesome! Is this possible but just not updated here? Please?

+1. otherwise i have to optimize and copy manually, or worse yet, do a convoluted handbrake workflow.

I am disappointed that we still cant do it, i remember reading a while back that the iOS and Android apps were essentially hybrid server clients.

Why cant the server have the same in that we can sync various series across it (i dont want to have to manage multiple processes (using 3rd party app to sync files and optionally transcode them).

I attempted to sync an episode to an iPad and it took longer to sync it at low quality (even after the transcode step) than it takes to watch it). Being able to sync a series to my laptop and then use it as PMS while on the road would be awesome (and don’t have to stuff around with low quality transcodes to fit in puny iPad storage.)

I just got a WD Passport Pro and have this same need! Anyone else find a solid solution?
