We have PMS on a Synology NAS as our “primary” media repository (nice for RAID, continuous backup, and wired network), but also have a WD Passport Pro wireless used to entertain our kids when we travel. I have been using rsync to copy media from one server to the other, but I’d rather not have to remember (in time) to do that before our trips and then there is usually some manual work to set/correct metadata (mostly, posters, since we have a child who doesn’t read yet and therefore depends on the artwork to identify things) on the Passport Pro.
It would be nice to be able to just setup certain libraries to “sync” to another server so that it would be automatic and the metadata could be copied along with the media files. Having a move / copy option would be useful in other scenarios, I believe. Having the option to move or copy an “optimized” version would also be very beneficial, since it would be common to keep the “source” server at the highest quality, but use a lower quality for the “target” server, since it would be serving media over wireless to our tablets.
