Hi guys, hi ladies,
I have been thinking about a simple thing which should be easy to accomplish and which would be an fast solution of many already requested other features:
- Do you want to add “James Bond” to all 007 movies and make that findable by search
- Do you want to have a way of setting up different versions of the same movie (like Director’s Cut vs. Extended Cut)
- Do you want to create your own collections, but at the same time have the standard collection be automatically updated (f.e. to have your all-time favorites or all “Oscar for best actor” or whatever)
Your can do such things right now by filling the standard meta data fields and then LOCK them. This way, the data in it never gets changed again. I had situations already where the name of collections changed, a different agent was used to search for a movie and it’s title could not change accordingly, etc…
Just get us a number of meta data fields (not filled by agents) for the user/admin to fill out and then link them to standard fields (with a drop-down menu). These user-definable fields get then attached to those fields:
“Redux” linked to “Title” would produce
“Apocalypse Now Redux”
“(Director’s Cut)” linked to title would produce
“Plexator (Director’s Cut)”
"(Elan’s Cut) linked to title would produce
“Plexator (Elan’s Cut)” with a second copy.
Please make these fields to survive meta data updates (as long as the object survives) and whatever the metadata agents writes to the field, just add the linked user-defined field to it again, so that “James Bond” finds ALL 007 movies via search, etc…
I have a number of movies of which there’s no official collection yet, for some of these, the actual data on TMDB / MovieDB is pretty incomplete / bad. But I still want them in user defined collections, add version info. On the other hand, I still want future updates produce better metadata results, so locking fields is not a good idea.
You probably can imagine even more uses for these fields. I find them pretty easy to add to Plex Web and to PMS and they would be really helpful since you don’t have to lock fields.
