I like the built in filtering of Plex but it sometimes takes time to work through the layers of the filtering, especially from a Roku box. It would be cool if search allowed be to look for an Actor, Genre, or Keywords within the Meta Data that the agents are collecting. Love what you are doing keep it up.
Add Collections. Think of it: if you search for Indiana Jones, you should be presented a list including Raiders of the Lost Ark because it's part of that collection.
Don't want to tredge this up again but I'm seeing a couple of posts start to circle around better usage of the metadata when searching Plex.
I would really like it if Plex would search more fields than just the Title field in the libraries. A keyword in the description, collection, actor, director...
Yeah that would be nice… for when you forgot the title but remember the actor, genre or director.
Or if I put the word "War" or "Gun" into the search it would also be looking through descriptions. The filters are nice but trying to scroll through all of the levels is just painful sometimes.
I support this. The current search system is way too basic: it makes Plex very difficult to use with large collections.
Any new of progress on this from the plex team? I’m a brand new user and really keen to do lots with metadata as I have such a large collection of home videos. Thanks.
2021 clean-up: implemented (search results include actors and genres).
