[Feature Request] Notification when new/missing episodes are available for TV shows

I got this idea from a topic which was actually a feature request in the wrong forum, so I am reposting it here with more clarification.

Upon setup of library or addition of new show:

  • check TVDB or another source for the list of episodes available for any show in the user’s library
  • Compare the list against the list of user’s episodes in the library
  • If there are episodes available not in the user’s library, show a “not in library” counter like the unwatched episodes counter, but in a different style

Daily check:

  • check TVDB or another source for the list of episodes available for any show in the user’s library
  • Compare the list against the list of user’s episodes in the library
  • If there are episodes available not in the user’s library, show a “not in library” counter like the unwatched episodes counter, but in a different style
  • If there are new episode(s) with a date later than the latest episode in the user’s library, additionally show some sort of notification/alert on the home/main view

I don’t know if this info is best shown in Plex itself; particularly because Plex can’t do anything about it being missing. Have you heard/used Sonarr? It has your requested features with the added abilities to monitor your chosen media acquisition sources and obtaining new media as necessary.

PLEX may just think that’s the way you want it. That’s what you give PLEX then that’s what PLEX sees.
But what I would like to see is a big fat place holder for missing episodes but that goes back to my first point. Why put a place holder on an episode you don’t want. PLEX doesn’t know this. It only knows what you give it. Maybe you intended not to include that episode. Only you know that.
