I would like to request that the number of cast members / actors and genre tags become editable within the Plex settings. In the web client specifically, there doesn't seem to be any reason to restrict this number. For example, I have changed the number of genre tags to three, and number of actors to twelve, and I haven't noticed any drop in performance of the Plex Web Client.
I know Plex only forwards the data (Qty) they get from the agents/scrapers, but really... I don't need to know the name of the guy that provided the sandwiches on the catering truck at the remote film shoot while on location in Guatemala.
It looks to me like the OP is running Transmogrify extension on his browser to get that screencap. (IMDB rating isn't part of the default Web App.) Transmogrify adds a lot of the info that could be seen here, including more cast members in the info page. This request actually belongs in the appropriate forum, since this isn't the default. (Or try to send a PM to the developer.)
The default web page only gives maybe 4 or 5 cast members, and most times not the high billing ones. The sort seems to be rather strange. I guess it depends a lot on the agent used..... Sorting the cast in the default isn't on any rhyme or reason I can see. It's not by billing or alpha, so... (Probably on how the agent pulls data from the source... Don't know if this can be tweaked much, other than changing agents.)
Transmogrify does have some settings that can be tweaked. I haven't played with it in a while so I don't know if cast members displayed can be changed. You are going to have to go into the extension settings to check it yourself.
There are already a few requests to change/modify cast, etc.
I feel all of the information in Transmogrify is missing from the Web App, anyway. We shouldn't need to run an extension or additional app to get this (basic) functionality.

Yes, I am running the Transmogrify extension for Chrome. In the screenshot, the IMDB rating/link and the "Watch Trailer" button are displayed because of the add-on. There is currently no option in Transmogrify to edit the number of cast members displayed, however. The way that I was able to change them is explained here: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/80722-how-to-increase-the-of-genre-tags-and-cast-members-displayed-in-plex-web/ .
As for the movie details page not always displaying the high billing actors, I found that switching the default agent from Freebase to The Movie Database fixed that issue completely for me.

I did some poking around after having increased the "actors" maxTags value to seeing no change in the number of actors being displayed for movies.
Thing to note: the plugins that are enabled, the order in which your plugins are arranged, and subsequently what options you have selected or not for each, will have an impact on such data being displayed - as one user has already pointed out.
For example, OMDB will return max number of 4 cast members per query - I have yet to see this not be the case otherwise and don't see a setting for increasing the number of actors returned (I had OMDB the highest priority thus only 4 actors max). The IMDB plugin may return say 15 but the cast members, from main character to a nobody in the background of the movie set, appear randomly in the movie metadata XML file; 1 movie example the main character was at XML "roles" node 'item' 13!
Another thing to note. With a bit of testing I have done, it would appear that the "The Movie DB" plugin will return many actors and in order (pretty well) from main character to those with less important roles. 15 actors appears to be the max.
I proceeded to move "The Movie DB" ahead of OMDB and refreshed a movie - voila - more actors displayed. However, I lose out on the various options that was available with the OMDB plugin and the metadata it displayed for my movies. When time permits, I'll just create my own plugin to my liking.
A loose workaround I put in place for ensuring that my maxTags values stay in place is by setting up a cron-job executing a SED command (don't have access at the moment).
Anyways, food for thought.
EDITED: for clarity. Apparently Blasman from another post had same idea about persisting the changed tagMax value.
EDITED #2: Apparently my brain is shutting down! I prefer OMDB over The Movie DB and OMDB is set ahead of The Movie DB in priority listing. I just unchecked "Actors" from OMDB plugin settings which then lets The Movie DB (setting checked for using its obtained info) get the 4+ cast members. Life is good!
+1 Not being able to see the star of the movie because it’s displayed alphabetically or by first appearance is dumb. Not being able to edit it is even dumber.
I agree that having unhelpful cast lists consisting of a handful of minor characters is really annoying. But **it’s easy to fix! ** In the web client, go to Settings/Server/Agents/The Movie Database, and drag The Movie Database to the top of the list (above Local Media Assets). Then Update Library from the main menu. Ta-daa! Perfect cast lists.
