[Feature Request] Support HEIF format in photo library (the standard equivalent to Apple LIVE Photo)

I would like to suggest the support of the High Efficency Image File Format, as it is a standard format developed by the MPEG Group (already in 2013).
It’s the standard equivalent to Apples Live Photos, and Apple will format all of the photos this way in IOs 11 and MacOS HighSierra. A question of time, when other manufacturers will also use this format.
It is also rumored that this format may replace JPEG at all in the near future…
That’s why I think it’s the best next step not only to implement Apples proprietary live photos, but the standard file format instead.

Having this feature implemented could really bury my iCloud Photo library:)

Here is the WIKI entry for more technical information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Image_File_Format

We’re aware of this issue and working on it! We just posted a notice about this here: Notice: HEIF in iOS 11 and Camera Upload

Any update on when HEIF and HEVC will be supported?

Checked in with the server folks and ffmpeg doesn’t natively support it yet. Internally, sorry nothing to report at this point.

A request for the same feature exists already, and it has more votes.

Therefore this one is closed.
