This TV is, according to the manufacturer specs, able to play HEVC 1080p 10bit file at that bitrate. Yet it transcodes. This is an unnecessary wast of my CPU. How can I fix this problem or contact the devs so that they can fix it.
Try playing it back with manualy selected “direct play”.
Do you mean “play version”?
I am refering to the playback mode. Manually select “direct play” to enforce it and check if the content is still transcoded.
I have a JS Series using Smart Hub app, though both use the same playback profile and suffer from the same problem:
the samsung profile lacks HVEC settings.
Enforcing direct play solved it for me
I wasn’t aware you could do that.
I’m on a Samsung 2016 model so I have the TizenOS App.
If you could provide me with some instructions I can run that test.
When you select a media item and see the page with the cover and description, there must be a navigation bar with icons. One of them looks similar to a dia slide. It should allow to choose from following settings: auto, direct play, direct stream or transcode
I do not run the generic SmartTV Client, so can’t help you with details. What I wrote above is the general approach that typicaly applies to all clients.
I shall get back to you tomorrow when I have access to my server again

It is a client option.
Ok. When I went to Play like normal (couldn’t find that option), it worked fine. Direct-Played my 10bit HEVC 1080p file.
However, when I added my pretranscoded (Handbrake) 8bit H.264 1080p, they appear in the correct order in the Web App (HEVC 10bit over 8bit). Yet the TV automatically goes to the 8bit H.264 version. Even when I try and ‘Play Version’ both of them, it plays the 8bit.
Huh???
Thanks for the help @kopfpilot
