Remote Access Indirect? - Please help?

Hi All,

I’ve been running Plex for a month or so now, and all is good (mostly!), and I’ve only been using it locally within my home network. However, I’m going to start using it for remote access, so have just been ensuring everything is set up for remote access (port forwarding etc).

I’ve been testing it just now by using my Mobile Phone as the Client on the mobile network, so its not local, and i noticed that its using an Indirect Connection, and the relay service from Plex. I’ve checked everything that i can think of, and i cant seem to get it to make a direct connection on a remote client. Here’s what i have set up:

PMS running on my QNAP TS-453A - IP 192.168.0.54:32400
QNAP Connected to an unmanaged switch, which is connected to my Wif Router
PMS currently fully accessible outside your network

  • Private 192.168.0.54 : 32400 (green arrow)
  • Public 5.71.xxx.xxx : 32400 (green arrow)
Manually Specified Port is TICKED (32400)
Router Portmap Table has Internal Port 32400 & External Port 32400 assigned to IP Address 192.168.0.54
QNAP IP Address 192.168.0.54 is Static (Address Reserved on Router)
Router Firewall also has a rule to allow inbound traffic to 192.168.0.54:32400
PMS Server Secure Connections Set to ‘Preferred’

As far as i can work out, everything is set correctly, yet when i connect to my PMS remotely i’m getting an Indirect Connection only…?

Have i missed anything?

I’m not going to get on to the subject of remote access when using a VPN on the same server, thats for another discussion!

Any help/guidance of ideas on why i’m not getting a DIRECT remote connection would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Darren
