For some reason, my connection when connecting remote says “indirect”. And that seems to be preventing some devices like Android TV from connecting. This was working within the past year but at some point has stopped. If I am connecting locally, I get “server nearby” and no mention of an indirect connection.
I’ve looked through the forums and could find nothing to fix this problem. I also compared my setting to the settings of a friend of mine’s plex server just to find anything different.
These are the things I’ve checked :
Port 32400 is forwarded to the correct machine.
Remote access tab says “Fully accessible outside your network”
Under network “Secure Connections” is set to “preferred”.
Under network I tried to disable “Enable Relay”, but that just made the server completely inaccessible remotely and I had to re-enable it when I got home.
uPNP is enabled on the router (Netgear Orbi), although I don’t see port 32400 anywhere.
Under account it shows my account and Plex Pass.
An indirect connection implies there’s an issue with your remote access setup. This setup will also depend on the capabilities of your router and ISP dependencies – so even if you use the exact same config as your friend there might still be issues.
Edit:
You’ll only need one type of forwarding – UPnP or a manual port forward… if your router supports both, I recommend going for the manual port forward.
Check if you can access your router’s public IP / tcp port from outside your home network (e.g. using a service like canyouseeme.org) – if that’s not working, try a different port to rule out your ISP blocking that specific one or a specific port range.
Using a buddy… he said his TV couldn’t connect o me but his iPad could. However he changed his TV plex app to allow insecure connections and then he could connect.
