1.17.0 now requires nvidia driver 418.30 or higher?

Server Version#:1.17.0
Player Version#:

I was excited to try out the new HW transcoding features (hw decode on nvidia linux and zero-copy support) but the changelog failed to mention that the new ffmpeg requires driver 418.30 or higher.

Since I’m still running Debian stretch, the provider driver is still on 390.xx. The new stable (buster) does have a 418.xx version in the repository, but maybe people would like to know the changed requirements on the driver for this beta, so they can prepare and upgrade accordingly.

(stretch-backports does provide a 418.xx version, so I’m trying that now)

you can download and manually install linux nvidia drivers without a repo, there is a list with direct links @ https://github.com/keylase/nvidia-patch

@jishi We have not changed any requirements on our side, but it looks like upstream ffmpeg changes that now require some newer driver code/apis.

regardless, we will update the support article and our release notes.

I can’t see if it’s edited in later, but the announcement mentions it: Plex Media Server
