Hello everyone,
I have one movie in MKV format that won’t play in Plex. It was been created just like the other 249 movies that I have and they all play. This is the only one that won’t. I’ve recreated the movie to no avail.
Would anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff
How is it not playing? What errors are you getting? What client? What is the Plex Server version? You have to provide more information so we can figure out what’s going on.
Thanks for the response.
- I’m getting no errors, just the spinning wheel like it’s trying to play.
- I’m trying to play it thru the the web using the Plex site (http://192.168.0.215:32400/web/index.html#). It also doesn’t play on my Xbox360
- Version 1.7.5.4035
Sorry for not providing this information at the beginning. I’m just getting started with Plex.
Is this what you were asking for:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
Sorry, XML doesnt look like it posted. File is attached.
@jsouthworth98 – @kegobeer-plex might have missed you have posted the XML, but here’s what I noticed that might cause problems…
- The video is mpeg2 (DVD format)
- The audio is 6 channel DTS
Chances are, both of those formats will require transcoding/converting by your server to play on either the xBox 360 or the web app. They will likely be re-encoded to the h264 video format and AAC stereo audio format. If your server isn’t fast enough to encode on the fly, you will see the spinning circle. Remember, MKV is just a container for the audio and video, and does not guarantee the file will play on any device.
Okay, thanks for your help.
I have deleted and recreated 2 movies, one being Alien and the other Alien 3, and Alien wouldn’t play. It seemed to me that Plex was using an old config file instead of the new one I created. Do you think that is possible?
I will recreate the movie again and see what happens. I will let you know.
I want to thank everyone for their help. I finally got the movie to play. It turns out that the software I was using to decrypt the DVD was selecting a different video format for this one movie versus the other ones that I decrypted. Not sure why but your help pointed me in the direction to figure this out.
