1080p issues

USB3 stick wont help form playback, that will more likely speed up GUI navigation.

Overclocking can still help high bitrate content.

Are you still having stuttering issue with RC4 ?

Ok that makes sense. I can live with the GUI lag. Not sure if I want to get in to over clocking.

As of now I don't see stutter, it just stops every 5-10 seconds on large files. ( I have been using a 1:1 Bluray encode of "The DarkNight" to test it).

Like I said before, transcoding to 20 Mbps works fine but I would really like to be able to just Directplay!

Thanks.

I have played 1:1 Bluray m2ts files of a Rolling Stones concert (50 Mbits+/s bitrate) with a 1000/500/500/6 overclocking, without any drop.

This conf is actually the one i use all the time on my RPi for a long time without any issue.

I also know that a bunch of our beta testers use overclocking and havent reported any bad behavior. The overclocking issue can be related to teh SD card Read / write sync. although if you are not using any crappy SDcard you should be safe :)

LongChair, how do you properly overclock a raspberry pi the right way?

thanks

Just open your config.txt file and change the settings, it's will be pretty much straight forward one you open it.

OK I used your settings for over clocking (1000/500/500/6) but still get the occasional 1 sec stop every 2-4 minutes when direct playing a 1:1 BlurayRip. Not sure what the problem is I am having. As soon as I set the transcode to 20Mbps everything runs peachy ;)

If it has no problems with 20Mbit it sounds like a network / server issue, not the Pi, since we have evidence that it can play at that bitrate...  Have you tried bringing up the debug info when playing in DirectPlay?  When it stops is the CPU hitting 100%?

How do I do that?

Also I am not sure how it could be a network or Server issue, since my MacMini plays back everything fine! Using the same network and server.

type 'i' during playback

I just upgraded to RC4, and am seeing periods of constant stuttering with certain 1080p files. I'm running from a USB3 stick, using dlanor's overclock settings. My network connection is wired.

Below is the metadata for an example file that stutters. In this case, the stuttering begins as soon as playback starts, but it begins to play normally as soon as it reaches the end of the opening credits. Watching the debug information through that period, the CPU never hits 100% (it tends to fluctuate between 30% and 70%), so it seems not to be CPU-bound. I also never saw the cache percentage drop below 32%, so it doesn't seem to be the usual issue (which I've seen with much higher bit-rate video) where the cache dwindles to 0, playback pauses whilst its fills up, and then resumes.

The odd thing is that various other, higher bit-rate files seem to playback smoothly. For example, this file starts and continues to play back smoothly:

These are both Blu Rays I've ripped, using the exact same settings in Handbrake. As you can see, the second file has almost twice the bitrate of the first.

Any ideas or suggestions? I'm pretty sure I've ruled out the network (since its wired and is able to playback much higher bit-rate video smoothly) and my PMS, since in both cases the files are being direct played.

I'm happy to provide log files and/or samples to aid in troubleshooting (though I'd need a little guidance on which logs would be useful etc.)
