Would a 2018 Mac Mini [ 4-Core [3.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i3,
6MB shared L3 cache] be enought machine to run a Plex server including live over the air TV and transcode of same. My current NAS [QNAP TS-253A] stumbles on this chore. The only thing the mini would do is run a Plex server.
Would give you a solid 3 live streams with CC turned on. Turn on the HW transcoder for more.
What is HW transcoder?
Hardware Transcoder. The i3-8100 has a integrated GPU what does really well with decode/encode video.
How much storage do you need?
Minimum as will use external SSD for storage
external NAS not SSD right?
Otherwise I have a test system based on i3-8100 , running Ubuntu right now, and it works quite well with software of hardware transcoding (plex-pass required feature)
I have an issue with a few high bitrate (50Mbps) and hardware decoding right now, but few files approach that.
