401 Error

Server Version#:1.41.7.9717

I’ve been running this server in a docker container on an Intel 11 NUC PAH for maybe just over a year now. Have never encountered this problem before.

All my other devices seem to connect to Plex just fine (Android, Tablet, TV). I can also access my content through plex.tv.

Other than updating Plex, I updated ubuntu last night to 24.04.02 (from 22.04, i think).

It’s not a huge problem since I can access my content through other means. Just thought it was very strange.

They seem to have removed the redirect that happened at the base url, if you add /web manually it probably works fine.

Thank you for pointing that out.
As you suspected, adding /web worked.

Having the same issue as others. Putting in /web does fix the issue for now.

Seeing the same thing after updating, rolling my docker container version back and back to old behavior. Hope this is a change that can be reverted. Cheers!

This seems to be breaking Plex on my Google TV (NVIDIA shield). I can’t play anything and only get “An error occurred while attempting to play this video”

Having the same issue here. If you are using a proxy, you can rewrite the URL manually.

They should fix this though, in my opinion.

Hello,

I’m using Windows Server 2019 as Server and a Reverser Proxy (Zoraxy) for External access. The rewrite through the proxy is not working. I have to manualy wirte /web into the URL.

Yes, they should fix this…

Jup same here,
https://plex.example.org/ will fail with 401.

https://plex.example.org/web will redirect.

Also have this using CF zerotrust. Adding /web manually is not a fix right, its a circumvent. Plex please fix this

@dotzeno Please remove “Solved” mark since it isnt solved lol.. thanks

It’s documented like that since the beginning.
There is no need to use the local web app, unless you need to claim the server, or there is an Internet outage.

@OttoKerner I think you are missing the problem.. We have reverse proxy configuration for the PMS pointing to ip:32400 - nothing more. When accessed Plex at plex.example.com it automatically redirected to the PMS. It worked for years and years.. and suddenly out of the blue it doesnt work:

Based on other users not just me I strongly believe Plex broke it.. I did not find a way to address this change on clients end.. neither pointing RVP to ip:32400/web nor adding segment /web/ to the path etc..
