403 response

I wrote a plugin some time back for onlinemovies.pro and now it seems that they have changed how the site works.

I've recoded the plugin so that it will correctly retrieve the video url instead of redirecting, however when I pass that to the PlayVideo routine it gives a 403 forbidden response.

The end video url I have, for example, is http://st95.u1.videomega.tv/v/3da15f0f1017a42a9297d87bef47dbdb.mp4?st=P9yGGjhFsii2ICyl-pxnJw&hash=e1QGiYCxx9d8jIlAF4sQ_g. Pasting this into a new browser windows reports a 403.

So, I was just wondering if there is anything that I can do to stop the 403 error, I've tried cookies and headers but to no avail. I'm either missing something or this is now just not possible due to their server.

Any help would be appreciated.

There's no simple answer to this one as you've probably already figured out since we don't know what criteria they are using to forbid the request.  It could be referrer, it could be passed parameters, it could be cookie based but any of that is just a stab in the dark and would be trial and error to figure out.  Also if they are closely watching their logs to try and discourage this type of stuff you could spend a lot of time reverse engineering a solution just to find that they change it after you've solved things and you're back at square one.

Thanks for the reply Gerk, that's kind of what I feared when they moved the goal posts, probably because they were being scraped they locked eveything down to either specific allowed domains or, as you say, parameters, cookies or whatever and I would have to keep a constant eye on it to keep patching for workarounds etc.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted, I'll have to shelve that one.

Cheers again.

That's honestly one of the reasons I never try and write channels for those types of sites, things "move" too quickly.  They can change up daily.  I like to find nice setups that have APIs and write for those ;)

I think I'll do that next time, it's not too bad if they don't make it completely inaccessible with access denied, it's just a bit more work constantly.
