Have you installed the recently released 64-bit Plex Server? I recently upgraded to 64-bit and my Windows Plex Server now supports 4K HDR to SDR Hardware Transcoding using my Quadro M2000 GPU.

My understanding it is a plex thing with the 32bit version. They recently released a 64bit version of PMS that should do it. But I personally have not tried it. At the time of my posting, it was true.

I did indeed have the 32-bit, but I installed 64 and the problem still exists.

So circling back on this, do i have to install Ubuntu to resolve this problem? I really dread doing that, because i used my windows-based media server a lot, for a lot of things, and I’m kind of happy being away from Linux at this point

The current 64-bit Windows builds support zero-copy transcoding for Nvidia and Intel GPUs. 64bit Windows builds enabled zero-copy only for NVIDIA, which doesn’t help Intel.

OP has never stated which GPU, if any, exists in the system.

Zero copy for Intel on Windows has existed since 2019. It is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
