mkvtoolnix and mkvtoolnix-GUI are the tools.
It is a purely remux tool. You can change stream order as well as change flags (default, forced, etc).
It will merge or allow extraction of any particular stream.

Ok, I tried a couple things (with no luck). The last thing I tried was to just completely remove the 7.1 track and leave only the 5.1 AC3 file. Like I mentioned this didn’t work. I have attached the logs as well as the media info xml.
When comparing the details of this audio track vs a file that would play I did notice one difference. This file’s audio bitrate is 640kbps vs the file that would play was at 448kbps. I wouldn’t think that would matter, but just thought I’d mention it since everything else looked the same.

hey @anon18523487 or @ChuckPa not sure if you saw my updated logs. Any ideas now?
It’s possible that the device has an internal limit that the app is unaware of. However, I’m not so sure the issue is the audio.
Reviewing your latest log, I see it tried to direct play the file, but something failed. It then tried to direct stream the file, and that also failed. It then goes to transcode the video only. So things appear to be working as expected, but there is something with the video preventing it from direct playing.
@anon18523487, so where do I go from here?
I can say that I have tested the file through another player on the same TV. I tried it on my Oppo 4k blu ray player. It also has a DLNA network player. So I enabled Plex to also broadcast via DLNA. When I play the file through that player it does playback fine without transcoding and in 4k/HDR.
It’s a less than ideal experience since it means that some movies I need to leave the Plex player (which is really great) and go to another device. So that’s why I’m taking the time to hopefully resolve (or improve) 4k playback issues with the Plex player.
Nice to see this thread, because I have the same experience on my '17 LG TV. And not just the 4K, but also with the 1080p movies.
My PMS is running from Ubuntu VM, PMP installed on TV, and many times there is an unnecessary transcoding of many movies. Practically it’s not a problem for me, because the server is powerful enough to do that job. But it still piss me up, because it take away the computing power from the another VMs, increases my electricity bill and heating up my garage, what is not to practical at summer.
Guys, please do something with this behavior. I’m actually little busy, but if you wan’t, I can also send you logs to investigate this problem.
Create a sample file that 1-2 minutes long. Ensure it causes the same issue, then provide me that sample. If we can reproduce it, we’ll take a look.
Thanks @anon18523487. I went ahead and trimmed the first 2 minutes and verified that it does exhibit the same issues with playback. The file itself is about 627MB, so what is the best way to get that over to you?
Upload it to a sharing site like Google Drive or Dropbox, then PM me the link.
ok @anon18523487, I sent you a message. Let me know if you didn’t get it.
@anon18523487 or @ChuckPa, was the file of any help. I did just install the latest PMS hoping that might fix things, but no luck.
