4k Transcoding specs

Server Version#: Not relevant

I have read abit on 4K transcoding, and been told not to do it.

I wanna try either way, just wondering if these specs would hold up.

CPU : Intel Core i7-2600K Processor
Mobo: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO, Socket-1155
16gigs of RAM

According to this a 1660 Ti should be able to sustain 2 4K transcodes (locally I have no problem - as I am not transcoding.

So the question is, if I buy a 1660 Ti - is that enough? Or is my cpu to slow?

Some useful info at elpamsoft.com:

Ok, so it says 5 Transcode streams - and Session Limit is 2. Does that mean max 2 streams at the same time?

Will my CPU keep up?

The person who ran the tests used hacked drivers to get above the limit of two simultaneous transcodes for GTX cards. Read the notes, search for “session limits.”

Regarding your CPU, I’ve no idea (I don’t transcode 4K). The video transcoding will occur on the GPU. However, the CPU will still be used for things like audio transcoding and packing the audio and video streams together if direct streaming is used instead of direct play (mkv → mp4 repackaging, etc). None of those tasks are heavy hitters on the CPU, but you’ll hit a limit at some point.
