Ah, should have called that out in my post too, I will update it. But mine was in ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server you may have to look in the other library locations as well /Library and /System/Library
you rock, worked for me too, thanks!
I tried the trick of updating the codecs but still no luck I’m afraid ![]()
Just a quick Update from me. I had attempted to downgrade my version and this still did not help for my Windows Player either from store or Plex website.
I downgraded my linux version (Proxmos with Debian LXC container with Nvidia GPU). No luck there.
The odd thing is it works fine playing to my windows Desktop Player on my AMD system (integrated GPU a 4600G, no discrete GPU)(Which had to be transcoded down to 1080p from 4K). Works natively on my FireTV no issues.
Just more info to help maybe troubleshoot.
IS there an update for Window users ?
Latest version still does not work for me. I downgraded to the previous version as suggested upthread and it’s back working as it was prior to the update. Definitely NOT fixed on Windows with the latest version (my plex server runs windows, as well as the one I’m using as a client).
Works for me thx alot.

is there any update for MAC? I tried all the proposed solutions but none worked
Perfect! Thanks for posting the solution.
Yep, that did the trick ![]()
This fixed the issue I was having, Plex updated last night and woke up to the aforementioned error. Tried installing the last version from January 2025 but it didn’t work until I used this zip folder and rebooted the machine and MKV X265 is streaming again. It affected everything, Apple TV and iOS devices and Windows Browsers. Plex Server running on Windows (so fixing these issues are easier for me than Linux)
Thanks, I couldn’t “find” the folder in Finder, but was able to access it through the Go to Folder command. I added all the dylib files to the Codecs folder and restarted Plex. When I start PMS back up, I see that it’s automatically creating a e613…-darwin-aarch64 folder in the Codecs folder, but it’s empty. When I try playing a movie in Plex, I see a codec appear in that folder for a half a second or so before it disappears and I see the codec error in the player. I tried copying the codec files to the new folder (and re-allowing OS to open them) and after restarting PMS and trying to play a movie, it just spins and nothing happens - no error message.
Any ideas on how to install a previous version on Mac?

Closed Plex, downloaded these into the Codecs folder, started Plex. Fixed my transcoding issues.
Edit: just in case you’re unsure what to do with the above – open a terminal, cd ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/e613bce-97f23d579c1001d8e9cc0d2e-darwin-aarch64, copy the above, clippaste > foo.sh, then sh ./foo.sh. There are cooler ways to do it, but it’s late and I just want to get on with watching my stuff now :).
Edit 2: you can, of course, just take the links and download them one by one and place them in the folder if you’re not comfortable with the terminal.
Is there somewhere that has the older versions of plex media server for windows available for download?
On Windows systems, Plex keeps the last three installed versions in the Updates folder in the Plex Data Folder on your system.
Thanks!
I was able to install an older version thanks to your advice - unfortunately no luck, and even did the codec copy trick above. ![]()
Fixed for me. Thanks!
Yeah, so I’ve downloaded all the codecs into the folder but still no luck. I’m on an M4 (ARM). Does that make a difference?
This should be resolved.
If you see a 429 response message in your logs when attempting to download codecs, this means that you’re spamming this call and our backend is temporarily blocking these requests. The only way to get around this is to wait. I do not know the exact time that you’ll need to wait but stopping PMS and waiting some amount of time (10-60 minutes) should be sufficient.
