In the top right of each video in the "Now Playing" section is the name of the device that the video is being played on. For example it may say "Chromecast" or "Plex Web (Chrome)". I think it should be able to pull the name of the device that it is being played on. For example, instead of saying "Chromecast" it could say "Living Room" or "Chromecast (Living Room)" or something long those lines.

+1 I would also like to be able to get friendly names for devices. I have found as a workaround if I go into the Plex settings when physically at the device, I can rename it. But that is not always practical. I have a couple of friends who live too far away for me to do this. I like to monitor who is using my server and from what device (since it should only be a small handful of people), and clean-up old devices from time-to-time. I can see this list on the backend, but if we could just take it a step further and allow me to edit the list with custom device names, it would make my life so much easier from a management standpoint!
I would further add that when you link a device to you PMS there should be a prompt to allow you to type in the ‘Friendly Name’ of the device you are linking to the PMS. This would allow you to add the ‘Friendly Name’ when the device is added. There should also be a textbox in the authorized devices section of the PMS to all you to add them after the device is linked.
The names of my Rokus do show up.
I’m going to BUMB this and add a +1 - and also maybe by typing “RENAME AUTHORIZED DEVICES” and “ADD NOTE TO AUTHORIZED DEVICES” people will be able to search and upvote this one. They at least redirected me to this ticket when I tried to submit just now. Here’s to hoping.
We really need this feature. Some devices let you customize the device or player name, like Plex for Android (TV) and Plexamp. However, most Plex client devices can’t set their own names. Sometimes they’ll pick up the name set in the device’s system, but other times they won’t recognize the specific device name. For instance, in the screenshot below, I have two iPhones. One shows up as “x1ao4’s iPhone 6s,” while the other just says “iPhone” instead of “x1ao4’s iPhone 8”. I’ve set the device name in the settings for both, but one isn’t being recognized. However, Plex Dash does recognize “x1ao4’s iPhone 8” as the device name (in Authorized Devices), which is confusing. Every Plex app should be able to set its own device name, and server admins should be able to customize names in Authorized Devices.
