The new Plex Home features are fantastic, but from an administrator point of view it can be difficult to manage your media across multiple users - especially as some functions (like delete) are restricted for managed users.
How about having the option in the media manager to view the media as if you were a managed user. So, you could still have all the necessary rights to manage the media, edit it, etc, but the lists of media displayed are what would be displayed if you were another user.
In practice, this would mean adding something like a “view media as” button, allowing you to select which managed user you want to view the media as.
Then, you’d be able to view the media as usual - recently viewed, recently added, playlists, etc. etc.
And, most importantly, you’d be able to edit, delete, mark as watched, etc. as you’d still be using your PlexPass account.
This should be relatively simple to add as it’s just having an extra filter/view of the media using the existing media manager, but would really help those of us with multiple managed users to be able to manage shared libraries and media.
I second this. I'd like all the sub accounts to be able to treat the watched state, ability to delete, etc as if they are part of the master account.
I set up two Plex Home local accounts - "Adults" and "Kids". Ideally I'd like to leave Plex in "Kids" mode except when my wife and I want to go to a "less appropriate" folder. When I view an existing TV series, in "All Seasons" my current list of viewed episodes shows the watched/unwatched icon correctly initially, though the individual Season X folders all show as unwatched. If I watch the next episode in the All Seasons view, it doesn't get marked as watched, but it does in the individual Season X folder. However the watched/unwatched changes don't propagate up to the master account. I understand that some people may want to watch episodes in a family at different times, so there are times when not syncing the watched state makes sense, but having the ability to propagate a watched state up to the master account by default on a sub-account would be really great.
I was about to make a similar request:
Not everybody in a family likes the same shows, so while my house doenst explicitly need to hide content because we are all adults, I really dont need my content library polluted by a bunch of shows im not interested in. I know that the admin can remove those in some way, but it seems cumbersome to have to always ask the admin to remove a show for me. If i could simply "delete" the show for just me that would be great.
This actually makes far more sense to me than the current system. For the most part we don't actually need subaccounts anyway, we simply need display filters.
Mostly, I just want easy access to all my content while having confidence that some portions of it won't display when I have company over and am scrolling through my libraries. Ideally this would apply to channels as well. They don't really need to be gone, simply not displayed.
It would be nice to have a pin requirement on switching the display filter but this is secondary imho since you can always get to all the content by bypassing plex altogether and anyone bright enough figure out how to switch displays can figure out how to get all the content in the world online.
