Add Smart playlist options

  • Auto create playlists that scrape track info from last.fm (create “smart” playlists from most played, most popular tracks, ect). I would like to create playlists from “most popular tracks” feature essentially. add granularity by further dividing playlists by genre. Example: most popular Metal, Rock and ect. playlists that update automatically as you add more tracks to the library
  • playlist folders
  • add an option to delete more than one playlist at a time.

bump. Can we get any smart playlist features!?!?

While not all your above filter conditions are available right now, you can achieve something similar with some of the current ‘Custom Filters.’

Open your library in the Web App
Activate ‘Custom Filters’

Once you have filtered your library to your liking, click on the ‘Add to Playlist’ icon
The resulting playlist is a ‘smart’ playlist, which updates itself automatically.

Here is an example which tries to make a list of your favorites of old:

Thank you for the detailed reply about custom filters. I am familiar with this feature, but I feel plex should be able auto-create popular track playlists based of info that its already downloading.

I’m trying to drop itunes but since it appears to be impossible to import self-updating smart playlists from itunes, I’m just thinking how close plex is to making most custom self-updating smart playlists obsolete. I would think that plex should be pretty close to add some exciting playlist features based on the info it already scraped from lastfm.

and despite trying to set my plex music library to only 10 genres. if my tracks already have meta-tag info it looks as though it overrides that setting. And I try to keep my mp3 tags clean and orderly with musicbrainz but even despite that I have redundant genres. So making custom filters gets to be a little frustrating still.

Plex should be right on the verge of delivering auto-playlist features for popular/new tracks at least. Not to mention suggestions plex can make to its users about tracks/albums users should consider to add to their libraries. (would sure be nice to know that new albums are out for some popular artists that are already in your library)

But perhaps plex can only scrape so-much… unaware of any limitations if any.
