Although I love Plex, one big deficiency I noted is how the dashboard only shows recently added media or media being played. That works with relatively small libraries but as more and more media (movies, shows, music, etc) is added, it gets really hard (and boring) to search amongst hundreds or maybe thousands of thumbnails or posters. It would be awesome to have a way to get “smart” suggestions on the dashboard (on top of what we currently get) based on previously watched movies for example. So plex will recommend what else to watch on the dashboard without digging to try to find something to watch that might be of interest. For example, something so simple as having a family of 5 users or sharing the server with a few friends, the library might have very different content and what one user likes, another might hate. One clear example, scary movies. Some people love them and some others don’t want to even see the posters of those.
So, if Plex could learn what a user likes, it might recommend movies on the dashboard and maybe even go one step further and if the user has chosen to get previews of movies, get previews based on watching habits.
This could make finding content way easy for not so tech-savvy users. Hopefully one day we will see something like that in Plex and get recommendations for music, movies or even tv shows based on interests.
