At a friend’s recommendation, I’ve been using Plex Media Server for about a year now. I love it! I’ve added a few friends’ accounts to my Plex server, which has worked out great.
I just tried to add a new friend to my server, but he pointed out a limitation: because he has his own Plex server, he’d have to abandon it to join mine. How come?
I found this support article, which mentions that you can only be a part of one Plex Home at a time. I think that’s what we’re running into.
I looked into Managed Users, but it doesn’t look like that would resolve my issue. I’m a bit disappointed, as I know this would work if he didn’t already have his own Plex server (I have another friend with access to multiple Plex servers, and it appears he’s able to do that because he doesn’t have his own).
Is this an intentional limitation, or would a feature request be appropriate for allowing this to happen? Are there any workarounds for this?
Thanks for this info. My friend and I were trying to find a way to view live TV from each other’s server… We tried managed users and the live TV or guide will NOT show up… It will however show up if we add each other as home, but that messed things up. For example my crown would go away, and my sister would be removed from home (as she has her own as well). So this is a real bummer. The entire reason why my friend got plex was so we could share each other’s tuners, and we just cant get it to work… It did work before when he was setup as friend, but they took live TV away in a release according to a post I read yesterday. Anyone else have a solution?
