Hello!
Actually, I use PMS installed on a cheap VPS (1.20€/month), with a GDrive “student account” as a source. With this setup, I can stream two files at the same time.
The thing is that I suppose that my Gdrive account will end someday, as I’m not a student anymore. I bought a cheap WD My Cloud 3TB (85€),and I want to move my collection to the hard drive, for a more “permanent” solution. I don’t know what should I choose for the server part
Objectives
- Something that can run 3 streams at the same time (No transcoding)
- With gigabit or USB 3.0
- Linux based
- If possible, capable to do one transcoding + two streams
- Low energy consumption
- Around 100€ maximum
My media is all 1080p or less, not more than 6GB per file, no 4K, not HEVC
Current players (All working with the VPS, don’t need transcoding)
- Pi Zero
- Computer with Kodi/OpenPHT
- LG Smart TV
Possible servers
- Raspberry Pi 3 (Underpowered, but I have one)
- RockPro64 4 GB Ram (Overkill? If it can’t transcode, is the same as another SBC, maybe less RAM?)
- Rock64
- Orange Pi Plus 2E
- Aliexpress MiniPC (I have a spare SSD, only need RAM/PC)
What do you think?
I’m asking for something impossible? I only want transcoding if it will be neccesary with my media / thinking in a future/ smartphone player, but, If I can’t use it now and I use Plex everyday, maybe I wouldn’t need it
And also… with Gigabit, what would be better, USB 3.0 or Samba folder to the server?
Thanks in advice!
PS: I think that I write all the neccesary data to know my (small) setup, but If i forgot something, let me knnow
