They have plenty of testing they just do not fix everything reported in the testing version and then just release broken products to production. Makes 0 sense. Point of a beta/preview is exactly that.
I have the same issue. Can we please have a response about a possible fix from a Plex representative considering the number of users affected?
Same issue here.
Similar issue on mine except it plays secondary audio (Spanish on some files) no matter how I force it play primary audio. Restarts, etc donāt help. Roku plex app is useless until issue resolved.
Hey all. Itās looking like this may be related to a the 8.0.1 build 4047-46 firmware update. We are unable to replicate this on 8.0.1 4042-29. There are reports of this affecting more channel than just Plex. We will work with Roku to try and isolate the issue and update this thread when we have more info.

Awesome, thanks for the update.
We have identified that the issue affects the 2017 Roku Ultra (4660) running 8.0.1 4047-46, and if your setup only supports stereo audio. The Roku is supposed to downmix the audio on the fly and is not. A possible workaround would be to disable Direct Play in the playback settings. This should cause the audio to be converted by the server instead of relying on the Roku. We will continue to update this thread when we have more info.
I just bought, received and setup a new Roku Ultra. Plex was not playing audio at all on several different videos I tried. I tried disabling Direct Play and then it started working. I did not check to see what quality it was sending to the receiver though. I did this last night and started reading the forum to see if my issue was known. It looks like it is.
Hopefully these will be resolved. I was tempted to try the Apple TV instead, and now Iām wondering if I should return the Ultra and go ahead with the ATV (based on this and the DTS thread). My Roku 3 has been rock solid but the remote needed replacement. I figured I might as well get a new one since the remote is 1/3 the price of a new Ultra.
I am also experiencing this issue, and Iām very happy to see that the devs are on top of it and working on a solution.
Hey all. We have identified the issue and added a workaround to correct it until we can get confirmation that this will be fixed in the firmware.
The Roku firmware should be able to downmix AC3 5.1ch audio to 2ch in stereo environments, and convert AAC 5.1ch to AC3 5.1ch to preserve surround sound in surround sound environments. This however is not the case, so in the interim we will now use the Plex Media Server to transcode the incompatible audio.
The update is available via our Plex Pass channel. We will be submitting this to Roku to get our official channel updated, but that will take some time as it has to go through the review certification process.

Ok, I am failsaucing on this. I added the update via the Plex Pass channel but it doesnāt seem to be doing anything nor do I see another Plex in my apps for the Roku. Movies with AC3.5.1 which were playing before updates arenāt playing any audio on the Roku, but no issues on my Plex App on W10 or my mobile devices.

Ok, solved it. Went to settings, system update, did a check, it added the plex pass version, and voila, sound fixed! ![]()
I had this same issue on my android tv box. No AC3 audio when directly streamed to my device. I have now fixed this issue all streams are working fine with video and audio.
Heres what i did. Download the latest version of plex which is 7.9 on Android. once installed open the app do not switch to tv mode, stay in mobile mode. Then go to experience then go into the player settings. You will see AC3 and DTS DISABLE both of these. once that is done save if you have to then switch to tv mode. Go back to settings and enable audio passthrough.
On your device enable dolby surround and dts
I also tried PCM and HDMI for audio on my device both worked.
It will be different for other platforms eg windows
But this has worked for me when a stream is playing ive checked what the player is doing on some its transcoding both audio and video and on others just video is transcoded audio is direct but still works.
AC3 and AC3 5.1 are now both working fine. Which is a great relief
Hope this helps others
Also having this same bug on Android phones (Samsung S9) lowering quality semi-works for now
Got the same issue here with plex server streaming to android tv app. Where can I find logs?
Iām having a similar issue with my Nvidia shield android tv I can work around it by messing with the advanced audio settings-Available formats area when its on Auto ac3=no sound and atmos/truehd works then when I set it manually choosing all formats ac3 works and selecting atmos/truehd makes the video not play at all I have a high end receiver so all audio is supported.
