Hi! I am trying to play my movies on my ATV3. Because ATV3 doesn’t have the app store my only option is to use airplay from my iPhone 8 Plus or my iPad3. This just won’t work. It plays like a charm on my iPhone or iPad, but it just wont work with airplay. This has been going on for about a week or so. Has there been any changes made to the app or server the last weeks?
What happens:
The ATV wakes up (if it sleeps).
The ATV shows the title and a timeline of the media i’m trying to play (for about 1 second).
The ATV goes back to the last menu i visited and the iPhone (or iPad) continue trying untill i do something else (like press pause).
I can’t work around this. Every other airplay app works great. I can watch the movie if i use the airplay mirroring-option, but then the movie is not floating, it lags and sometimes even gets stuck for a few seconds so its not an option for me.
The server runs on a Windows 10 computer. I’ve tried reinstalling the app (but this happens on both my iPhone and iPad so i figured the app isn’t the problem), and also reinstalling the server, but nothing works.
Same thing here, the weird thing is that not all videos have this issue. Some videos airplayed just fine, but others won’t. Recently I upgraded iOS to 11.2.1 and PLEX to 4.22, not sure which upgrades caused the problem. Before these upgrades, everything worked perfectly.
Thank you for the link to the other post, it saved me. I discovered that if I watch from the beginning it works, and it even works if I watch from the beginning and then go forward on the timeline and it still works!
Trailers over AirPlay to ATV3 works OK, but nothing from my PMS will play. Tested on iOS 11.2/10.2.1. Both with Plex Client 4.22. PMS 1.10.1.4602 on Mac. Installing iOS 11.2.5 Public beta now…
Same problem in iOS 11.2.5 Public beta. Cant resume. Works if I play from the beginning.
Have sent a message with logs to developers. Hope they find this bug asap.
I managed to repro the bug with some files as you say. We use exactly the same code and player for iOS playback and AirPlay playback (both ATV 3 and ATV 4), but for some reason this only fails on ATV 3.
From my tests, it only happens on some transcoded files, and I have a fix/workaround for it, but now it will need some beta testing to make sure I didn’t break something else

Same issue and seemingly works now. Been trying to figure this out for a few days…thought the app was a rip off. This may redeem everything! Thanks everyone. “starting for the beginning” worked 3Xs so far!!
My issue is that I haven’t been able to make it work at all anymore since I upgraded to AppleTV 4K. I sync my media for offline use and then I try to airplay, screen goes black and it tries to load then apple Tv goes back to the main menu and then plex app does a hard crash and have to restart the app. I’m using apple airpad 2 and the latest os , app version on everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Same problem here as Silversnake. Apple tv 4k gives error and IOS app crashes. Quite frustrating that I am unable to watch my offline files on my iphone on my apple tv via the plex app.
Exactly the same for me now, except for the symptoms. Im also trying to airplay offline material, but i cant make it work, not even by starting from the beginning.
I’m trying to use airplay peer-o-peer (no wifi).
My ATV 4k just goes dark for 0,5 secs and then it goes back to the main menu. On my phone (iPhone 8 Plus) its just an eternal spinning circle.
I can watch the media if I choose screen mirror instead, but then the subtitles are gone. Its possible that the subs would be gone even with airplay, but as i havent been able to make the media play that way i cant confirm it.
Please fix this, its very (VERY) frustrating to say the least. I just bought the Plex Pass also to get the sync feature, but if i cant airplay the material there no reason i will continue with the Plex Pass.
